I think I double started BIAB and messed something up. It starts and the logo comes up but it doesn't go any farther. You cant close it out with the x. You have to go to the task manager and close it that way. I restarted my computer and tried again but the same thing happens. I really don't want to reload BIAB since I have the 2020 version. Any ideas?

IF I have to wipe anything out, no problem cause I never save anything in the program. It is in a separated dedicated file and also on an external drive. Bill MOllenhauer

The first thing to do is to install the latest patch (build 722), then see if that still happens.
https://nn.pgmusic.com/pgfiles/support/patches/bb2020_win_update_build722.exe

Without being able to open the program, you could still check which build you have currently by right-clicking on bbw64.exe --> Properties -> Details.

Thanks Andrew,

I tried the link you sent and it seemed to download. A window come up and said something is likely damaged and by clicking on OK it would repair it. That didn't seem to do anything. I cant find a file bbw64.exe I believe the logo said I am using 32 bit but all this stuff says 64 bit. I am not too good at some of this computer stuff. Would I be better off just wiping it out and reinstalling it from the BIAB flash drive?

If you have Band-in-a-Box installed on your PC's internal hard drive, then the .exe will usually be found in C:\bb. You could right-click on the shortcut you use to run the program and select Properties, and it will tell you where the file is located.

Go to that location (e.g. C:\bb) and find the file bbw.exe (the 32bit version) or bbw64.exe (the 64bit version). It doesn't matter which one. Also, you may or may not see the .exe part of the filename because Windows hides file extensions by default. Right-click on the file and select Properties, then click the Details tab. This will tell you the exact version and build number (e.g. 2020.0.0.722). What is it?

I couldn't still get any of what you say I should. I finally got it to open past the logo by defraging the drive but something is still not right. I found a place that said BIAB was up to date but never found the build number.

It took me a while to get the full BIAB screen with the mixer and chord sheet but the chord font has changed and if I open a song it is very simplified, usually with just 16 bars and repeats. No intro or ending. Also the font size changes between songs, sometimes very large and sometimes tiny. So far I cannot find any of the songs that have the song title in the title space but the song file has the title. Should I just click back to factory settings?

Well if you can open Band-in-a-Box, then you can find the version and build number by going to the Help menu --> About Band-in-a-Box.

It sounds like there is a problem with font installation on your PC. Did you upgrade Windows recently? Do you see music notation (notes, rests, etc.) in the Notation Window? The first thing I would try is:

1. Reboot your PC.
2. Run the Band-in-a-Box font installer. This is found in the bb folder .. \bb\Data\Installers\bbfonts.exe.

If this doesn't fix it there might be a few additional steps needed, depending on what you find.

Hi Andrew,

Just got back to working on the problem.

I am not sure what is going on. but the info you wanted is 2020 722 version. I rebooted and ran the font exe.

here is what I notice now and it was there before I did the reboot and font exe.

4 windows come up whenever I click on a button or close out the program and it says
current drum kit has no bass note assigned
…..no snare note assigned
...no closed hi hat assigned
… no open hi hat assigned

also the notes that end the song like C... C.. C. are all purple and they used to be red. I had this problem before but don't remember where the font color change is found. Also it seems that each song has a different font size and it didn't use to be that way. I had set the size, I think somewhere, before. Where is this found.

Thanks Bill Mollenhauer

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
