A song about staying put with the one you love... shared here on the day we sold our house.
Looks like a few days away from the forum and I have some catching up to do, but I have to post now: its Canada Day, eh!

When Her Eyes Shine

a stowaway to the gates of heaven
didn`t mind they were closed
she brought back the radiance
spilled onto her clothes

people piled higher`n higher she said
from earth up into space
grabbing grasping yearning
until the stars back away

I always was the restless kind
one more twist to tune my string
since she told me of her vision
settle and stick that`s my thing

been hither `n thither
I can live wherever
we hang our do not disturb sign
home grown happy
when her eyes shine

sometimes she wants to walk out of our painting
we have to widen the frame
when someones been close to heaven
you just want to stay near their flame

the meadow mown in spirals we have tea
at the door of the soul within
don`t need scientists or preachers
in her arms is where my world begins

been hither `n thither
I can live wherever
we hang our do not disturb sign
home grown happy
when her eyes shine
home grown happy
when her eyes shine

I just got back from taking my wife out to super and I listened to this song. It is such a fitting song for me as today was our 53 wedding anniversary!

"been hither `n thither
I can live wherever
we hang our do not disturb sign
home grown happy
when her eyes shine
home grown happy
when her eyes shine"

What a great chorus.

I liked everything about this song, the lyrics, vocals, backing tracks, and mix.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Hi Robert,

Of course your lyrics are sublime, but the song is very nice too.
A nice style (Shaman) you chose, a good rhythm and that swell violin.
I don't want to forget your vocals, but I can't say anything new on them. I already like that.
So I really enjoyed listening to your song!

Of course I was charmed by your lyrics again, like 'one more twist to tune my string', but then you continued with some even nicer lines: 'sometimes she wants to walk out of our painting. We have to widen the frame'. Those sentences are so well found, hats off!

Have a nice day,
Hans

That song is a thing of beauty Robert! This immediately put me in mind of Neil Young in so many ways from the melody and chord structure to the vocal delivery to the instrumentation! This is your best yet for my money! Thanks, T

Hi Robert
Very much enjoyed your vocal, the style and the mix of instruments. And of course the lyrics. Particularly struck by 'grabbing grasping yearning until the stars back away.'

Leon

Robert,

An excellent BAND. And an excellent mix. You vocal sits in it just as it should. Nice use of the fiddle.

"home grown happy" - what a great phrase!

"when someones been close to heaven
you just want to stay near their flame" - NICE!

A really nice write.

I like it when you "get your rockin' rhythm on". This style really suits you to a T (I think).

I really like it!!

Robert,
I hope the selling part was at least in some way as smooth as this tune smile

You are one skilled story teller!
Choruses are so different, yet work very well. Excellent performance! Mix is very good, but I think fiddle might be asking for a little reverb. Enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing.

Robert,

Very nice song!
The chord progression of the beginning of the melody is great.
The tight drum is wonderful.
Your narrative vocal are comfortable as usual.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Robert,

Terrific tune . . . I’m not sure why but it reminds me of R.E.M. . . . just in the style of write, the delivery of the vocal and some of those cool chord changes. Cool listen!

All my best,

Deej

Nice intro with the Fiddle! Works well for the solo too.

Excellent writing as per usual, Floyd's favorite line is also mine, and I also really like the first part of that verse:

"sometimes she wants to walk out of our painting
we have to widen the frame
when someones been close to heaven
you just want to stay near their flame"

I get the R.E.M. vibe too in spots, mostly the vocal delivery I think.

Good song, Robert.

Happy belated Canada Day!

You are truly incredible. I don't know who to compare you to, I am not an expert in this kind of style of music. That said: wow. Sensitivity, lyrics (and an ability to write them) to die for - mature, well written and arranged music - gentle, sensitive singing. You are one of the very first names I look for when I log on on here, 'case you've written something new I can enjoy. Well done ... wonderful song.

Floyd,
I heard someone say that- "home grown happy"- about their kids and it stuck.
I appreciate those comments - especially on the mix & vocal placement as I`ve been trying to fine tune that.

"been hither `n thither
I can live wherever
we hang our do not disturb sign
home grown happy
when her eyes shine"

It's been quoted but that suits the two of us to a T.

As I sometimes say no need to parse it out infinitum.
It's all good.

Standouts:

- The image rich write,

- your vocal and

- the band. Andy is a heckuva fiddler and you put his talents to good use indeed.

We think this would have precipitated some spousal eye shining!

Nice!

Lovely romantic poetry sung with passion, the light arrangement supports the vision nicely. Chords and melody create an interesting colorful tapestry for the house of love. Widening the frame sounds like a big renovation smile

Hello Robert ...

Being late to the party ... and what a great party ... almost everything I was thinking, as I listened, has already been mentioned. The one thing that hasn't been mention (I think) is the ending ... totally loved that! You're quite the lyricist!

Wishing you the very best. Be safe ...

Alan

The lyrics make their own music.
The backing for them works a treat and the ending is very cool.
Well done.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
