In the midst of looking high and low for a good arpeggiator that wouldn't require an advanced degree to use, I staggered around the internet, downloading trial versions, all the usual fare. Rog finally hooked me up, but through that whole exercise I realized how much I miss my old Roland Juno 60. The sounds were very good considering it was the 80s, and I just liked the thing. The units on the internet were $2500 because they are now "vintage". (Man, i HATE that word!) Well, the gods have smiled on me. I don't know when it came out, and I don't care, but Roland now has a module that (and I made some calls and checked) has the exact synth engine as the Juno 60. (And here is why I think maybe I just didn't know about this.) This unit is the JU-06a. Before it was a JU-06 without the "a". I think the A means nothing more than arpeggiator, because the non-a model did not have one. So, yada yada yada, I'll know Thursday if it is everything I hope it is. And what started this all? I want to play a repetitive 16th note part by holding down one key, and I can do that on the Juno. I know I can because the band I was in at the time did a Little Steven song called Out Of The Darkness that was on his second album, and I set the arpeggiator up to play 1 note, set the speed, hit the latch button, set the attack to a little slower than instant, and voila. (Or viola, as some say.) I can't remember a time I was so thrilled to spend $400! Those analog days were so much simpler to set up filter sweeps and such, and this thing has exactly when the keyboard had. An LFO section, DCO, VCA, HPF, VCF and envelope. As well as key transpose (GOD how that comes in handy when you come to a situation where a band lowers a key for singers) and all of it. Happy to live so close to Sweetwater. I ALMOST was going to drive there tomorrow. It's like 3 1/2 hours from here. But, Thursday it is! MIDI the little devil up to the MK3 controller and play with it. What will be interesting is that it also emulates the Juno 106 which I never owned.

I have a Juno 106 laying out in the garage .. needs the keyboard contacts cleaned due to not using it (getting sporadic) .. but the guts still work. If you're interested let me know <grin> It's in a nice Anvil case, not abused, and the garage is attached .. heck if you want the case that's open too. I can probably even throw a stand in if you need one! I remember joining a band in the 80's where their previous keyboard player had a Juno-60 .. they were so excited that I had the 106. Silly now that I think about it. /The 60 wasn't anywhere near as digitally capable via MIDI .. etc So to answer the question in the original post; no, MIDI/digital outperforms analog for consistency every time. (unless you like not knowing exactly what you'll get on a given night) Even if they told you it was the exact same engine, I'd still have reservations about this thing being truly analog The published specs state Analog/Digital: Digital SweetWater Specs
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

If that Juno 60 had MIDI I would still have it. I sold it for $400 to help fund an ESQ-1 purchase. Part of my fondness is that I knew that thing inside and out. Need this sound? Hang on. Give me 3-4 minutes and I'll have it for you. Need a sweep? Okay. Need a sound like pouring a carbonated beverage into a glass? I'll have that hiss for you in a second. As they got better, they also got more complicated. The Motif and the Triton - I would never learn how to program them so I would be limited to OEM sounds. You need an advanced degree in electronics anymore. This thing, along with the other stuff I have, will fit right in! I went so far with the Juno that I bought that little sequencer that they made for it to play the into to the Joe Cocker cover of Little Help From My Friends. No idea what I paid for that thing but it was a toy and I wanted it. Worst sequencer ever.

The Roland Cloud is just what you are looking for. Subscription service but all the Roland Sounds you would ever want available for whatever you need them for.
My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.

Analog.... you mean like a guitar and a tube amp? Yeah I love some old gear myself....
For a minute there I thought you were asking about did anyone miss analog recording..... uhhhh that one would be a solid no.

New toy got here an hour ago. Gave it a quick run through for 40 minutes or so and I know I am going to have fun with this thing. I remember those sounds, though I have to go back to Synthesizer 101 to remember how to program it.

I used to have a Prophet V which I loved, but it spent more time in the workshop than in the studio. I've now got a plugin emulation which good, but not as good as the original.
On the plus side, it's always there when I need it ....

On the plus side, it's always there when I need it .... And it likely never needs to go into the shop. That was the story with the early iterations of the Variax too. I have been at shows where suddenly 4 strings stopped playing because the humidity affected the main system board. The latest in the James Tyler series seems to have fixed that.

As well as key transpose (GOD how that comes in handy when you come to a situation where a band lowers a key for singers) and all of it. . Very much like being a Capo for a keyboard. That could start an entirely different discussion.

Behringer are on a tear releasing modernized versions of old school synths. Keep your eyes out for what they are offering these days.

I have a few analog synths, my favorite being the Moog sub 37. Moog synths are great and I'm glad to see they finally made a polyphonic synth, the Moog One, but it's 6.5k USD and that's just for the 8 voice. Now with Roland these days, they have being focusing on going complete digital when it comes to their synths. I haven't read any articles about any new analog synths being made by them. it's just digital remakes of the old hardware using digital samples.

Well, my birthday is a month away. If you want to give it to me I'll drive up! Sure .. If you want to come get it, let me know Otherwise about a week from now I'll consider other options It's a fairly heavy synth and the case makes it too expensive to ship Like I said, the keyboard itself needs attention Feel free to PM me if you want..
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Attention like it's dirty or attention like broken keys? I doubt I'd drive over 4 hours each way. but curiosity, ya know?

Yeah, I know. more now than when new .. granted my parents owned a music store so I got pretty good deals I seem to have a few like that. In order to sell the 106 I'd want to clean it up and know it's working fine, which as I stated earlier, it needs a good keyboard cleaning. I've cleaned the keyboard on it before (it is 30 + years old) and remember it being a bit of a pain. And even then my only motivation would be to sell it, which I'm not so sure I want to do anyway. I'd give it to a friend in need, but I don't need the money and do have the room. It's only in the garage because I brought it back from the studio and I'm lazy.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
