Hello, I've been using PT for a long time for playing and editing midi tracks. I had a computer problem and lost the library for my Korg Pax keyboard. I believe it was an INI file but could be wrong. So when I am in PT and I click on a track instrument a drop down menu appears allowing me to change from GM to one of the actual Pax sounds. I've lost that function. Can anyone help me out on this? Thank you, Steve
Thank you for the link. I am having a hard time getting this file into PT12. Would someone please take the time and spell it out for me step by step? Thank you in advance. Steve
I have not done this in awhile, but in general the .ini file is just a text file. You need to find the patches.ini file in the Power Tracks folder and just modify the text to add the new KorgXXX.ini file to the end of it. The next time Power Tracks opens the patches.bin file will compile the new information from the modified patches.ini file and the Korg information should show up in your patch selection dialogue.
As an alternative, there is a menu item under the "Action" menu in Power Tracks that allows you to convert a .pat file from BIAB or a .ins file from Cakewalk and automatically add it to the patches.ini file.
BTW, this is exactly the same in RealBand. Good luck.
First of all thank you for your help. I am running the new version of PT. I did exactly what you said and I can't get the Korg file to show up under patches or when I load a midi song I don't see the Korg patches with the other ones like I am suppose to. In less I am missing something, the new version of PT does not let you convert a PAT to an INI. Anyway, I named the unzipped file like you said and put it into the newly named old patches file and NOTHING. I am at a loss. I can remember years ago it was very simple. Someone sent me a Korg PA80 ini file and I just dumped it into PT and it appeared in my drop down menu. So now I am at a loss.

If I said that I didn't mean to. You rename the original patches.ini to patchesOLD.ini (so PT doesn't find it) Then you rename your new unzipped file to PATCHES.INI, and copy to your PT folder.
You should see a message about PT rebuilding Patches.bin when you next launch PT (see below). If you don't see this, the mistake occurred in a previous step.
I didn't say to put it in the newly named old patches file .. not sure what that means
I just tested again with PT 2018 and it worked

OK the strange thing is many years ago Gary who downloaded the PA file sent it to me. I have the Pa80 ini file on a disk still. The first time I did it with the older version of PT12 all I did was drop it into PT and I was good to go. So I really don't understand what the problem is this time. I don't think I'm a moron, I have a degree in E.E. so I have some brains but this has me stumped. Again thanks for your patience and help. Steve
Make sure you are putting it in the current PT folder (wherever you are running it from)?
I've done it a couple of times now, and actually asked support/developers to change the installer so it retains the Patches.INI file if it exists (so we don't keep having to do this).
Can't think of what else I do that is different. You have to close/re-open PT after copying the new file into the PT folder, but that's all you should have to do.

OK I am going to try this one more time. I have the PA80 ini file on disk. I dumped it onto my desktop. Are you saying just move it right into C://PT?
I do not have the latest version of Power Tracks. I stopped updating at PT12 because I now use Realband (BIAB features on top of Power Tracks). However the latest version of Realband still allows conversion of BIAB .pat files and Cakewalk .ins files. But the latest interface now includes this function under the Edit/Midi menu. I am pretty sure that Power Tracks probably has assumed this new layout also. Since what you are doing has not worked for you, maybe this automated action might get it done. Good luck.

Yes. Rename it to patches.ini if needed. (edit: you do) I'm not sure which file you downloaded, and patch map files (which are in the support area) are created by users, so I'm not sure what file name you ended up with after unzipping! If it is called patches.ini you are good to go. (edit: it's not, needs renaming)
Download it, unzip it, then rename it to patches.ini (if needed). Copy to PT folder
The only reason for a patches_old.ini is to keep a copy of your old original file so you can revert back later if there is an issue.
By renaming the existing C:\PT\patches.ini to patches_old.ini (first) then if you have a problem, you can simply: Delete the new patches.ini rename the patches_old.ini back to patches.ini, relaunch PT and you should be back where you started.
You really shouldn't need the patches_old file, but it's a safety net. You could also simply move it to a different folder. The goal is to have a copy of it for a backup in case it is needed.
*Edit OK, I just downloaded Gary Currans PA80 It ended up with a file named Korg PA-80.ini You need to rename that to patches.ini (important) THEN copy it to the C:\PT folder .. should work fine.
I don't have a Korg to test it on, but hopefully that is what you were looking for. The file itself looks OK to me glancing over it.

Add updated printing options, enhanced tracks settings, smoother use of MGU and SGU (BB files) within PowerTracks, and more with the latest PowerTracks Pro Audio 2024 update!
Download and install this to your RealBand 2024 for updated print options, streamlined loading and saving of .SGU & MGU (BB) files, and to add a number of program adjustments that address user-reported bugs and concerns.
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
