Hi, new user here with biab 2020. I'm trying to figure out what these prefixes mean.

When I open a Realstyle in biab some realtracks in the mixer are prefixed with a ~

~ 558: Guitar,etc

When I open that same song in the DAW plugin(Cakewalk) it adds an N/A

** N/A ** ~ 558:Guitar etc

I don't see this in any of the demo videos I have watched.

Thanks,

Hello,

~ means that similar RealTracks are available at multiple tempos and will be automatically substituted if you change the tempo of your song. For example Piano, Acoustic Rhythm Jazz Sw 140 might be substituted for Piano, Acoustic Rhythm Jazz Ballad Sw 80 if you reduce your song tempo.

~~ means that the substitution has been done.

Note - this feature can be disabled in the RealTracks Settings (allow substitution based on tempo).

N/A means Not Available, i.e. the RealTracks instrument exists, but is not in your installation. This should not be the case for you, since it exists when you launch the full program. I would suggest that you.

In the plugin:
1. Go to File | Preferences and make sure that the folder paths are correct (match where your full program is).
2. Press Rebuild in the StylePicker dialog.

Hello Richard W,

Welcome to Band-in-a-Box and to the forum.

By default Band-in-a-Box will substitute one RealTrack for another when the RealTrack the style calls for does not match the tempo of the song project. When a substitution is made, the "~" (tilde) sign is placed in front of the name of the substitute RealTrack.

For example you may be using a style that has instruments selected for use around 85 beats per minute (BPM) but your song project tempo is set for 120 BPM. Band-in-a-Box will load RealTracks closer to 120 BPM.

Since no RealTracks actually use the tilde symbol in their name, they are N/A or not available.

This is from page 122 of the Band-in-a-Box manual:
Quote:
Allow RealTracks substitutions based on tempo
When set, the program will find the best RealTracks to use at the current tempo. For example, it might substitute an acoustic bass recorded at a higher tempo, closer to the tempo of your song. The RealTracks name will appear on the main screen with a tilde (~) to indicate the substitution

Hi Andrew, thanks for the prompt and helpful response. The folder paths were all left at the default but rebuilding the style list has fixed the N/A.

I still have an issue when I try to copy all the tracks at once(using the blue icon on the master track) from the plugin to my project I get a "Selected files not compatible with this operation" message. I can copy all the tracks individually. There are 5 realtracks and one midi melody track.

Thanks,

I have the same result with Cakewalk, and similarly if I drag multiple files from Explorer if one of them is a MIDI file. I think Cakewalk only supports dragging MIDI files individually .. perhaps another Cakewalk user could confirm?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
