I noticed this several month ago. PG live chat has severe issues in Chrome and IE browsers (for me). Chrome does not even show activity when you start the chat. IE does not react to "green" button up on the right upper corner. Only works when blue "memo" icon is pressed on the bottom. And... when the chat starts lines overlap, making it impossible to read.
I mentioned this several times to customer support, all I got is "it works well for most". Maybe it is my machine(s), I have tried this on 2 computers. Since there is no phone support from the start of the year, in my view, chat should work spotless.

Since it was not addressed I wonder if it is my setup? Here is a screenshot. Can somebody comment on this?
Thank you.

Maybe try CTRL + 0 (zero). This sets the Zoom to default for a browser in Windows, all major browsers anyway.

Looks like maybe you are zoomed in, which can wreak havoc on mobile responsive sites, especially ones using 3rd party plugins like Chat.

just a thought.
I've chatted recently and did not see that issue.

Another thing to try is to hold CTRL and hit the F5 key (CTRL + F5), which should force the whole page to reload in case your system has something cached that is causing it. They made changes to Chat fairly recently, and if you have an old file cached it 'could' cause an issue. This does more of a 'hard reload' than just clicking the refresh button, and should force supporting CSS and javascript files to reload among other things.

Not a PG employee, just a web guy .. it's a couple things to try.

Looking again, it also appears your white background for the chat has lost some of the opacity .. do you have some kind of Windows theme running that may cause this?
It certainly looks like a display setting to me somehow.

Which internet explorer version
(or internet exploder)

That looks nothing like a stock browser/OS should look like.
Maybe update IE to the newer Edge.
The Chat background should not be that transparent.
Is your IE old enough to not support current standards?
I tried in current FF, Chrome and Edge .. not going back to IE ever ..
Microsoft has said 'IE is not a browser, it's a compatibility tool' .. kinda summed it up for me.

A bit more on this. I do not remember I ever experienced these sort of "chat" issues with any (!) other companies. Problems usually start on 4-5 reply with using more than 2 lines of text from either side.

I hope somebody at PG resolves this. I can find my answers one way or another, but I can see how frustrating it can get to a newcomer. In my opinion, it should work/scale properly regardless of user setup as with most of companies who offer "live chat".

P.S. Green button on top does not work in IE too, you have to press the blue "message" icon on the bottom. (Yes, I turned pop up blocker off for testing purposes)

While I was typing this, Simon at PG was able to recreate the issue on his end. So problem is "found" I would NOT call this thread ReSoLved, as it is not.

Overall it took me 4 sessions in chats to explain this "chat" issue and over 2 hours in combined time. Why am I doing this? Because I care, and I hope someone at tech will care to fix this too.

rharv,

I am using Chrome, but it has a different problem with chat...which I explained to PG staff in previously. I used IE, because I had the problem with chat in Chrome. Catch 22 smile

If PGMusic support could reproduce the issue I'd anticipate a fix in 5 .. 4 .. 3 ..

FWIW, I had a client this weekend that couldn't click a certain button in Chrome but only when in her office, her home computer with the same version of Chrome worked fine. FF could click the button in either location ..

Bugs happen .. and are sometimes very hard to track down. At least you know they are aware.

Ohh yes, sure bugs happen. But when a user explains the issue to company several times...with examples and gets something like "it works fine for everybody else"
I find it ...how to gently put it... insensitive?

In my work experience, only 2-3% of people report technical issues. Others will either ignore them and find a workaround, but a good part will just walk away. Little stuff. I know. Small things make up a big ones, right?

P.S. I do feel relieved that it was finally reproduced and I am not witch hunting issues on my PC smile

Hi,

The overlapping text issue happens on Internet Explorer. IE is rarely used anymore, so that's why other people don't see it. Actually the chat window on IE is a fallback to an older version of the chat software, and I don't believe that version is still being developed. I will check with them again as I would like to see a fix for this issue as well.

There should not be any overlapping issue on Edge, Chrome, or other modern browsers. If you are seeing a different issue please let me know.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
