I'm running RealBand 2018(5) on Windows 8.1 (64bit).
I tried to add VST Plugin 'Kontakt 6 Player' and get an error-message (... is not a valid VST-Plugin ...), no matter whether I use the 32bit- or 64bit-version of the DLL.
I tried the same in BIAB 2018 and there it works!!!
Do you have an idea, what the problem could be?
(In the green popup-box appears a hint concerning 'JBridge', but as I understood, it only converts vom 32 to 64bit vice versa, but neither of these versions work ...)
How did you try to add it? Did you use the FX Plugin window? Did you make sure to add it to the top slot in that window?
There are 4 slots for FX and only the top one can hold a VSTi .. the others are for VST. This also has to be added on a MIDI track. If you tried to add it on an audio track it will not take, since all four slots on an audio track are for VST's (not VSTi's)
Your error message that it is not a Valid VST doesn't really help us, because I think the message is the same for VST and VSTi .. I wish that could get changed to help narrow down a user error. VSTi is different than VST, but maybe in this case it is helping us find the issue.

Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
That's how I tried (I get the messages in german and tried to translate them, so they may not be the exact originals):
I choose an existing MIDI-track in RealBand Per right-mouse-klick I open the menue and select 'Open VSTi/DXi Synth Panel configuration' The 'DirectX/VST' window appears It shows on top as track 'CoyoteWT (Default)' and below 4 boxes of which the first again is set to 'CoyoteWT' I open this first box and choose 'Add VSTiPlugin' A window opens that shows my 'VSTPlugins'-folder I choose the 'Kontakt.dll' (it is the 32bit version, the same, that worked with BIAB) Then I get the message '...Kontakt.dll is not a valid VSTPlug-In!' The 'DirectX/VST' window then shows/has switched to on top track 'Synth 16(Default)'
I also tried it using the 'VSTi/DXiSynth'-button in the MIDI-Block in the Top-Menue, but it leads me to the same 'DirectX/VST'-window. What made me wonder is that in the top-line of that window that's called 'Spur' in german (track), I can't choose a track. A long list appears but whatever I choose, the content ('CoyoteWT (Default)') doesn't change. So this Top-line doesn't show the track, as I would have exspected, but the chosen plugin (?)
Try putting the Kontakt plugin into the second (2nd) slot. The first slot is normally reserved for the program's default midi sound module (Coyote WT in this case).
Google Translate to German:
Versuchen Sie, das Kontakt-Plugin in den zweiten (2.) Steckplatz zu stecken. Der erste Steckplatz ist normalerweise für das Standard-MIDI-Soundmodul des Programms reserviert (in diesem Fall Coyote WT).
Are you running RB as an administrator? If not do so. If yes then run it not as an administrator. I don't know if this will help but it may be worth a try.
Google Translate to German:
Führen Sie RB als Administrator aus? Wenn nicht, tu es. Wenn ja, führen Sie es nicht als Administrator aus. Ich weiß nicht, ob dies helfen wird, aber es könnte einen Versuch wert sein.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware
But now I tried it in exactly your way and did get the same error-message. Somehow the Kontakt.DLL is not accepted, allthough in BIAB it works without problems (?). Very strange ...
HI Cima Very strange that. Be aware that if you do manage to get Realband to recognise your Kontakt dll. You will need to insert it in the tracks you require it in, and chose your Kontakt instrument and channel in Kontakt.( you can use omni or the one listed in the Realband track. This is because simply opening a BIAB sgu/mgu in Realband does not carry over the Plug in synths. Once you are happy I would save as a Realband seq file for future use. I have 2019 I might add. However I don’t know why your Realband doesn’t recognise your Kontakt dll As it works in BIAB. Mike
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
