Hello to all, from Wales, UK

I am a new user of RealBand, but I am also a long-time user of BIAB, so have a familaiorty with the general architecture….

However, I am being hampered by the fact that the (RealBand) Manual seems sometimes not to match the software as on screen. (My Realband is 2018.5, and the Manual describes it as for Realband 2018, but there it is.)

For instance, in the initial set-up, <Options> did not include the promised route to midi set-up. I managed to find a way to that from <Preferences>.

Now I want to create an .ini file for my preferred sound-module. I have the .PAT file in BIAB, and the Realband Manual directs me to <Action> menu – but again, the option quoted in the Manual is not present in the menu onscreen, and this time I have yet to find an alternative route.

I would be grateful for any info/advice on the general issue of what Manual to use (and possibly where to get it); and specifically, a stroke by stoke guide to import and modify the .PAT file.

Many thanks

Ian Graham

Thank you, Mike, for the link, which I will follow in the morning.
I would still be interested, however, to hear comments/information on the underlying problem. I can provide screen dumps if anyone doubts what I'm saying.

Sincerely

Good morning, again.

With respect, Mike, the article repeats the same issue. It directs me to the Action menu - which in my case does not include the promised option. (I've taken a screen dump, but I can't now see any way to make an attachment to this message.....)

I acknowledge that the article also includes detailed instruction how to make the ini file 'by hand' - but presumably the 'wizard' is provided because that is a fairly laborious and intricate process, and frankly, I'd like to use the wizard !

Sincerely
Ian G.

And further:
I've run a search on my RealBand folder for .exe files, and there are a whole raft of them.
Some are descriptively named, and they are recognisable as distinct sub-routines you'd normally go into from a menu or through the GUI e.g Audio-Chord Wizard.
Many are more enigmatically named by letters and numbers.
Is it possible that one of these is in fact the wizard I'm looking for? If so, does anyone know which ? And could I safely run it directly ? With RealBand running ?

Many thanks
Ian G.

Look under Edit - MIDI .. see if it shows up there towards the bottom.

Hallo, rharv (Rharv)

Thank you, Rharv, yes, there it is.

So hopefully that's the immediate practical issue resolved.
Did you just know that, or did you 'find' it ? It still seems to be odd that the Manual, the PGwebsite and the actual program don't agree.

Many thanks

I have found for years now the manual, the tutorial videos and the actual program seem to all differ in little ways. I usually just do the hunt and peck method of finding out how to do something. Takes longer but sometimes I find things I didn't even know were there!

The forums seem to always find the answer if I have a question.

My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
