I see a LOT of posts that talk about how people don't have time for this or that. The younger ones, I understand. Jobs and kids and such. But the older ones like me, retirees like me.... what is it that you do all day that has you so busy that time is ever an issue? As much as I understand that my life is only my life, and that I am pretty much a slug who has been on vacation for 7 years since retirement, and that I do very little outside the house (Why buy a house if your goal is to never be home in it?), it just baffles me to ever hear "I don't have time" from retirees. I mean, buys touring schedule with you band getting in the way? All that time in the studio working on your 18th album that your label is demanding? I mean most of us are some level of nobody nothings in the grand scheme of music by now, so I doubt it's that. Also factor in that I don't have a spouse or kids, so that is a large part of it. When I was with 3.0 she ALWAYS wanted to be doing something and that is a large part of why I am single again. You want to go to some stupid flea market, just go and tell me about it when you get home. Movies? Nope. Out to dinner? Nope. Sporting events? Nope. Visiting people? Nope. I am happy right here.
But as I said, that's me. Howard Hughes was more social that I am. I have SO enjoyed being quarantined. The bulk of my out of house activity is going to Walmart or Giant Eagle to pick up food that I ordered online. I absolutely LOVE the digital, virtual world we live in now. You want to visit and catch up, that's why god created Zoom. I sit at the computer literally all day most days. Unless I have to mow the grass or do some other kind of project, I'll be here in my media room!! I like to think about things I want to do, like the guitar restoration I have going on, recipe ideas (LOVE to cook!) planning getaway trips for me and my tiny trailer for after Scruff leaves me, learning new music stuff.... and backgammon. LOVE backgammon.
Somebody once asked me to join her for a 5k walk for some cause or other. I said "Can't I just write them a check?" And that kind of sums up who I am.
I know some of you actually do stuff. I think Bud and Janice have bike trails on their land and they ride a lot. I know Herb is involved with search and rescue and that amazing dog of his. (Is it Lily?) Pat does animation, which is quite time consuming. But short of a busy job or band with a touring schedule, how is it you guys spend you time?
Of course, if you feel this is prying, just ignore it. I am just curious by nature. I like to ask questions and learn things.

My sister's husband committed suicide November 2019. She is disabled so I assist her with whatever she needs.
Sorry to know this happened. You are a good sister to help her like you are. Too many people take that way out, and often nobody sees the underlying cause in time to intervene. This hits me as I know that 22 Veterans commit suicide every day.

Dan, you are also NOT retired, so back that part out of your reply! Even picking and choosing contract jobs is still working. Then add in homeschooling, and you still work full time.
You dunking yet?

Well.... I'm 66, officially going to retire Saturday August 1, 2020. Well, as far as SSI is concerned. I still run a business, I train my dog for HRD search, and I am married, plan to stay that way, and have a farm on 28 wooded acres. And I still find time to write and record music in the midst of all of that.
When I say I'm busy, yeah, I mean it. But I have figured out that you can always find the time to do the things that you think are important.
When I lay down at night.... it literally takes me a few minutes.... 5 maybe, to be asleep until the morning...and that's after an afternoon nap most days.... 3pm... it's nap time buddy. Siesta is a great idea and I love it.

You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.com Add nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.
The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.
Is it all woods or is some of it cleared to grow food? I remember some pics from when you built that studio. And did it up right. I thought of buying a garage kit for the backyard for a place to "get away from it all", and then I realized that I have no "it" to get away from. This house has 2 rooms I don't use NOW....

Thank you. Ron was addicted to ... well ... a pharmacy of different drugs. He went to every rehab program in the area. Finally, he chose his solution to become clean.
It was a year long nightmare until hunters found his body.

BTW, I don't mind talking about this. It is what it is.

Kudos to you, Deb!
I have been sole caregiver for my beautiful wife for about 50 years until my own stroke made it impossible. Now she is living with our daughter near my nursing home and uses Google Phone to call me every day. She's my inspiration and reason to go on.
She recently suffered nine simultaneous strokes and this demonstrates her determination: "Well, I'll just hafta learn everything again, again!"

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
