Senses (Original) 7/2020 https://soundcloud.com/phil-leith/sensesI've been away for a long while. The album is pretty much mastered. This song will not go on it. It doesn't fit. Maybe the next one. Another song I woke up from a dream with a snippet in my mind. First two lines. Although in the dream, the word was "Death". I changed it to "Love" to write the song. The rest just flowed, like a gift from the Universe. Kind of like "Alive". Anyway, I made it a classic rock song. Trying for the "Gypsy"/"Moody Blues" prog-rock direction. Me on the vocals. Oh, and the cowbell :-) You think it needs more? :-D The rest is: 995 Bass, Electric, HardRockLA EV 120 ~686:Organ, B3 Background Pop Ev 120 RealDrums=HardRockLA^5a:Snare, loose HiHa, B:snare, Open Hi Hat 997:Guitar, Electric, Rhytm HardRockLACrisp Ev 120 ~522, Electric, Rhythm HardRockLArispARP Ev 120 1260:Guitar, Electric, Soloist PopShiningEv 120 (Phil Leith 7/2020) Have you heard the people Who talk of love but tell the same old lies? The harmonies sound great. It's got the classic protest song vibe. But where's the obligatory Rickenbacker 12 string? Musical heterodoxy!

Hi Phil ...
Used to live very close to Columbia, MO. Live in Northern Alabama now.
Cool song! The harmony is terrific and the panning of them is a real nice touch. Love the drum track ... particularly on the choruses. Nice vocal and track selection. Like David, I thought a 12 string Rick, particularly at the opening, would have been a real nice touch.
The vibe I got from it the Brit Invasion era of the early and middle 60s. That 12 string Rick would have nailed that sound!
A terrific listen of a great song. I really like it a lot! Take care and be safe ...
Alan

Phil,
Good to see ya back.
Cool song. Definitely has a 70's Rock feel and sound. Nice backing tracks.
Really nice vocals and harmonies/BGVs. They are a bit loud in comparison to the tracks. I had the volume at 100% on Soundcloud (speaker volume is at 50%) when it started and the tracks had a nice balance. When the vocals began they were quite loud. Setting the volume to a good level for the vocals, left the tracks low in volume. Just a small tweak to the vocal and harmony volumes should be all that is needed.
An enjoyable listen. Took me back to "the Golden Era of Rock"! Ahhh...to be young again...

I have a lot of trouble with that. I've had advice that the vocals need to stand out. My gut here was the same as your observation - but I second-guessed myself with the advice.
It's giving me fits mastering my album, which I've never done before.
I'll go back and balance them more to our liking :-)

Excellent lyrics, and I like how you give credit to the universe. Well sung, and creative harmonies.

Ok, Floyd. I re-balanced and brought the vocals down. Better? I think so.

Wow... I like this....
loved the lyrics and man.... what a rocking groove for the song.
Have you tasted freedom? To do your thing and say what's on your mind? Do you know the lies That promise peace and bliss but rob you blind?
So apt for today... you've got a few really nice thoughtful lines in this song. totally enjoyed the listen

Ok, Floyd. I re-balanced and brought the vocals down. Better? I think so. Much better, yes! The main vocal and accompanying harmony are right where they should be. The "newspeak mafia" vocal on the left at :33 seems a little louder than the main vocal. If it were me, I'd have it at the same level with a touch (not much) more reverb - but that is a "producer's choice" at this point... Good job.

Nice, original bit of songwriting performed perfectly. Worth promoting whatever way you deem. I'm impressed.

Will Well, the album ... pretty much ready to publish, is out on soundcloud. This song is not going to be on it. It doesn't really fit the theme. I think I'll put it out as a single. The vast majority of the album is done with Band in a Box to some extent. A few tracks are actually all me :-) https://soundcloud.com/phil-leith/sets/ghostsBand In A Box makes me sound a lot better. The ones that are all me are generally ones I couldn't find exactly the sound I wanted in BIAB. But ... I buy more every year. Maybe one day.
