A Place Without Tears

Verse 1
Oh, I've seen troubles
Oh, all my days
It's always been a struggle, oh
Just to find my way
Desperate pleas for mercy
Just to end the pain
A whispered prayer on my knees
That wasn't in vain

Verse 2
I've been led out of darkness
Shown a path to what's right
I've been given a promise
If I follow in your light
There will be singing of angels
Not the cries we have here
We'll rejoice in a place
A place without tears

Chorus
I've been promised a place
In the sweet by and by
Oh, one of these days
There'll be no reason to cry
When all these earthly sorrows
Will have all disappeared
We'll rejoice in a place
Without any tears

Verse 3
Oh, I've been heavily laden
With burdens in this lifetime
In ditches with other blind men
But every day I climb
That mountaintop's getting closer
I can almost see it from here
That place I been promised
Without any tears

Chorus
I've been promised a place
In the sweet by and by
Oh, one of these days
There'll be no reason to cry
When these earthly sorrows
Will have all disappeared
We'll rejoice in that place
Without any tears

Break

Chorus
I've been promised a place
In the sweet by and by
Oh, one of these days
There'll be no reason to cry
When these earthly sorrows
Will have all disappeared
We'll rejoice in that place
Without any tears

Bawb,

Nice opening. The mournful fiddle into the full guitar and organ sets things up well. Drums and bass sound good.

Then, oh, that voice. Emotional, full-on anguish. Amazing.

Another strong write. A good mix. Well done.

Oh my word. What am I to say here?

1) If this were one of those blind audition competitions such as "The Voice" (yes, I know), I would have turned my chair from the very first moment your voice came in. Wow.

2) This is a CLASSIC. A CLASSIC. SUPERB job.

Did I already say that this is a classic? If not, I'll say it again.

What an achievement. Superb writing, superb singing, superb lyrics ... sheer sincere emotion at every point of this song. Wow. Nothing more to say - I've just listened to it for the first time and want to enjoy the memory of it ringing in my mind after this first listen. Then I want to hear it again. Really, really well done.

Man, as folks say in these parts that's strong as a garlic milkshake.

Wow!

The vocal, write, arrangement, the "band," and the mix -- everything is in the pocket to deliver the anguish.

Well done!!!

I liked the intro. It sets up the song feel nicely. You can sure hear the anguish in the vocal, tons of emotion. Nicely written and enjoyed, Tom

The emotion of the lyrics comes through so well in your singing.

I too love the introduction. It grabbed a hold of me and set the mood for what was to come.

Awesome lyrics!

Very cool, very soulful song, sung with the passion it deserves!! I think you have a bit too much room sound on your vocal.....it is so well sung but the processing could be done better I feel. Great stuff!! Take care. Greg

Many Tom Waites songs have a gospel basis and this works in the same way but more overtly due to the lyrics.
I can happily imagine this as about any & everything even as I listen. The strange contrast of despair in the vocal and the hope filled lyrics make this intriguing.

Cheers

Wow. Not only do you sound like Tom Waits you write like him too.

Outstanding song. This is my kind of gospel.

Excellent use of the band too.

Bravo!

Folks,
Thanks for your kind words. Though my response was delayed, It does not mean that I did not appreciate your comments.
I kind of waited so I didn't post replies several times, possibly bumping down someone else's new post.

Wow, that is a monster song. It leaps out and grabs you and makes you feel every single verse. Every once in a while, you hear a song that transcends it's parts and becomes a whole, like a single thread woven into a tapestry in time. The soul and raw pain you capture in the vocals is simply amazing. I cannot find the words to capture how good this song is - everyone needs to just listen to it and decide for themselves.

Hello Bawb,

Very sweet melody with a strong lyric on the philosophy of life. I appreciated. It is a very good composition that touches us humans on this fragile earth and our destiny.

Thanks

Bawb,
Your vocal from the opening line pushes the listener back in the seat and down into the depths... cathartic hardly covers it.
I can`t advise how to capture and process a voice so powerful, but do think there`s improvement to reverb and matching the room sound with your backing band that could work... make no mistake though, this is fantastic as is!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
