The Blues Don't Discriminate

A bluesy piece about “the blues”…..

The Blues Don’t Discriminate

Leon: Lyrics & Vocals
I played guitar & sang a little.

The Band:
RealTracks in style: 2903:Bass, Acoustic, BluesyPopByron Ev 100

RealTracks in style: 2905:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm BrightBluesyPopColin Ev 100
RealDrums [in style:PopPromiseEv16^4-a: Snare, HiHat , b: Snare, Open HiHat
Kontakt Horns

The Blues Don’t Discriminate
The blues they don’t discriminate
The blues don’t pick and choose
Anybody can suffer, baby
Anybody can have the blues

Anybody can feel as if
The sun will never shine
Anybody can feel like they have
Wasted all of their precious time

The blues they don’t discriminate
The blues don’t pick and choose
Anyone can suffer, baby
Anyone can have the blues

Anyone can stumble
Anyone can fall
Anyone can feel like they’re trapped
And backed up against the wall

The blues they don’t discriminate
The blues don’t pick and choose
Everybody can suffer, baby
Everybody can have the blues

The blues
The blues
I said the blues
Oh yea, the blues

Everybody can buckle under
When it all gets to be too much
Hearts are primed to burst asunder
If never they feel that loving touch

The blues they don’t discriminate
The blues don’t pick and choose
Everybody can suffer, baby
Everybody can have the blues
Everybody can suffer, oh yea
Everybody can have the blues

Peter & Leon,

"The blues they don’t discriminate
The blues don’t pick and choose
Anyone can suffer, baby
Anyone can have the blues"

HA! I like it.

The song was surprisingly upbeat sounding (for a Blues number). The horns are cool. Nice guitar work. A strong vocal.

It seem to go by quickly. So I cued it up again...

Very nice, Leon and Peter!

Enjoyed the lyrics/vocals.

Good solo work, Peter, especially liked the dual guitars at the end, and the way you brought that horn and guitar in for that last note. Nice!

"Everybody can buckle under
When it all gets to be too much
Hearts are primed to burst asunder
If never they feel that loving touch".

Superb lyrics, and that's just an example. Loved the song, I can just imagine how someone with "the blues" can relate to and enjoy this song, too. Loved the modulations into the minor, then back into major ... enjoyed the singing, too.

It feels like a pity to analyse this song too much, because it stands well on its own and analysing it feels like picking at a flower or something (wish I had a better, clearer example, but there you go). So I'm just going to say: really enjoyed it, thanks for sharing it with us!

Thanks floyd - I guess you'd call it a happy blues about the blues?

Peter & Leon,
even your sad tunes are positive and uplifting. Easy to follow lyrics / rhyme.
Horns work very well with crunchy guitar, but I think they would benefit a bit more reverb.
Nice one! Thank you for sharing.

Thenhorn section playing is cool the attack & release is very good...a little reverb boost would sit tem a little better though.
Assured vocal and solid arrangement.
Well done.

This is quite the jaunty song. I was bopping my head along as I listened. Catchy chorus. And as always, the guitar work is primo.

Blues with a super vocal and some very sweet guitar leads is something that I love. You guys nailed it! Super use of the horns as they were perfectly placed. The mix was great.

“Everybody can buckle under

Great lines (of many).

And nicely delivered by Leon and that guy who
sings a little.

Like Dave we found the outro to be cool and creative (I’m pretty sure we’ve heard that guitar guy before and we do like his dueling playing).

It's all capped off with a great band (love the horns) and a mix that makes it all
sound like it was happening in the same room. Love the soundstage.

Another fine collab y’all!

J&B

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
