Every time I try to use the program, I get these messages
Files with STY extension are absent in folder C:\bb\
Files with STX extension are absent in folder C:\bb\
There are no files found by mask C:\bb\unins*.exe
There are no files found by mask C:\bb\unins*.dat
work completed

However if I look at the folder which was automatically installed,
C:\bb\Styles
I have something like 7000 files.

What this means is that almost all of the song styles I try to play don't have half the instruments in them (they are just silent).

Can you help me? I've spent nearly two years trying to get started, including about 6 messages to the Band in a Box people, leading me to upgrade three times to the latest versions, but they haven't helped. The follow-up service has been, frankly, pathetic. When I've written about it to them, they have said 'you need to speak to the technical people, I'm only in sales' or told me that they are so busy they can't give individual attention.

You shouldn't have to wait two years to get the program that you've paid for to actually work.

Can anyone here help? It MUST be a simple problem, surely, but I don't have the skills myself.

Did you start with a version prior to BIAB 2018? If so, have you been advised to run the Cleanup utility?

Thanks for your reply.

I did start with an early version. Then I updated to 2018. Then 2020.

No one told me to use the Clean Up thingy, but I did it out of desperation. That's where I get the messages about no .sty and all the other things from.

When I go to the PG Music Download Manager, I get the following list

When I click on the button that says "What Band in a Box add-ons do I have?"

It gives me a HUGE list
e.g. it says there are no styles in the relevant folder, but when I click "What styles do I have?" it says

I get what seems to be error messages when I try to load the programs, and it always says things like "RealTracks not found style" - if that is the problem, which I suspect it is, what do I do about it?

It’s hard coming into a long-running problem. What version of BIAB did you buy? For example if you bought the Pro version, it would be correct that most of the RealTracks are not available. Also the add-on style paks often require RealTracks not in the Pro version.

Band-in-a-Box MegaPAK Upgrade with RealBand
and Band-in-a-Box UltraPAK Upgrade

Does that help? Is there something else I should get?

Are you currently running the ultra pak version? That is the only version you need to run as it has most all of the RTs.

what year are we talking about? you have three upgrades so what is the sequence? did you install each in sequence and activate each of them with the supplied serial number? can you use BIAB at all? can you get an all midi style to play?

just a word of reassurance, all your installation files and everything you ever bought will be in your PG Account so even if you have to start right from the beginning with a fresh install (but that shouldn't be necessary)you will be able to get a fully functioning BIAB installation with all the extras you ever purchased.

if you have run the cleanup have you rebuilt the styles in stylepicker? excuse me if you have, and there's no guarantee it will fix your problem but it's worth a try.

just open stylepicker and press the rebuild button.

Very good, you have the UltraPak so except for a possible few bonus pack purchases you should have all the RealTracks and almost all of the styles.

At this point I have a different suggestion. You live in Melbourne. At least one other of the most experienced of us also lives there. It might be easiest if you received some assistance from them. If you agree, I will message them. Perhaps you can reach an agreement for some private tutoring.

Also, though I accept you have had difficulties with PG Music Support, I have to observe that PG Music is the finest company I have ever seen for being fair. I have every confidence you could get your issues solved. If nothing else, a tech can access your computer remotely and assist. Please do not give up.

Welcome to the forum and to Band-in-a-Box. I'm sorry you're having this problem. Hopefully the problem will be sorted out soon.

We need to know more about your upgrade path from your initial purchase until now. There are multiple upgrade paths possible based on the description you provided in your posts.

You said the following files are available in your PG Music Download Manager: Loops Set 2, ProReal Combos 1, ProReal Combos 2, ProReal Combos 3, ProReal Combos 4, ProReal Combos 5, ProReal Combos 6, MegaReal Combos 1, MegaReal Combos 2, MegaReal Combos 3, MegaReal Combos 4 and MegaReal Combos 5.

Have you compared this list against the files listed as available for download for year 2020 in your online account? Note that if you received your Band-in-a-Box materials on a USB memory stick, DVD or CD or never registered your purchases by recording the serial numbers you may not have had a reason to establish an online account. The online account also has a separate login than the forum.

How does the online account file listings for 2018 and before match up against what you have?

One area of concern is you mention three upgrades but upgrade content can differ from an equivalent package with the equivalent name. That's where the online account can be helpful. Your online account will list what files are available for each year you registered your serial number.

I’ve had BIAB for about 27 years so I don’t remember, but I think you first need to buy the license for the full product and install that before you buy any upgrades. Just checking...

I hope we got you going again OK.

You may need to check with your keyboard provider for additional info on how to enable MIDI out, but it looks like BiaB is working for you and you are correctly upgraded to the Ultra Pak and now have all of the correct available RealTracks and Styles.

Excellent work.

It was terrific to read that you made such a difference.

Given that Melbourne is in Stage 4 lockdown with a curfew from 8:00pm -- 5:00am, and we can only travel within 5 kilometres of home, it's pretty tough getting around to help out right now.

At least Mark now has BIAB to help him fill in the hours. Only 2.5 more weeks to go!
