We're thrilled to tell you a little about the latest Band-in-a-Box® Endorsing Artist, Mel Brown!

Bass player Mel Brown has been nominated for 3 Grammy Awards (and he won two of them!), with many appearances on #1 Billboard albums and singles - you may have heard of him and listened to his playing in the past. On top of performing, he's also an author, educator, and musical director! He's been using Band-in-a-Box for about 10 years, and has this to say:

"Band-in-a-Box is my 'go-to' solution for creating accompanying tracks. I've always used it for my in-person teaching activities, but now that so much of activity in this area is 'on-demand' video content online, the need for audio quality, musicality, and ease of use in my production workflow are much more important. The RealTracks have solidified Band-in-a-Box as my primary composing tool as well. As an independent musician, Band-in-a-Box makes it possible to take full advantage of opportunities with full confidence in my final product - for a price that completely makes sense. If you haven't tried it, you're truly missing out"

Learn more about Mel Brown here.

I must admit, I've never seen the words "Band-in-a-Box user" and "Emmy nominated" in the same sentence before! grin

Joking aside though, so what exactly makes a person an "endorsing artist", then?

Thank goodness words aren't knives.

Somebody who is well known that says they use the product. This guy using it may generate some sales. ME using it, on the other hand, generates NO sales, since outside of the people on here and my total of 5 friends in the entire world even know I exist. Thus I am probably not likely going to become an endorser. Though I HAVE told people about this and it did result in at least one of them buying it.

I smashed the hell out of my car today. When the cops came I told him "Officer, that guy was BOTH texting and drinking a beer." The cop said "Sir, he has every right to do that. I mean, it's HIS living room..."

Just to share a story with you about endorsements. The Ensoniq rep that covered the Cleveland area was Doug Nestler, a GREAT guy with a lively sense of humor. I saw him at the store that used to take my money and talked to him about an endorsement, telling him I have FIVE Ensoniq products on stage and they could toss SOMETHING my way since we played 4-6 shows a week and hundreds of people saw us and many asked me about my sound. He said that Ensoniq just flatly did not endorse artists. So I invited him out to see us that night right near where he was staying. He said he would pop out and unwind with a beer or twelve.

He walked in about 4 songs into the first set to see my rig with every reference to Ensoniq covered with duct tape. He pointed at the tape on one of the ESQ-1s and gave me a disgusted look while shaking his head. About 10 minutes later, a round of beers came to the stage. For everybody but me! We laughed about that for the next 4 years until he left Ensoniq before their ship completely went under and they were acquired by EMUlator.

So the the blame for the demise of Ensoniq clearly falls squarely on your shoulders. You stopped promoting it and they went under grin

Yep! But I still use an EPS16+ sampler and an ESQ-1 to play along with the horn section for some sound thickening!! And of course my beloved Nord for organ, piano and strings. That is THE best sounding keyboard I ever had. It has gotten the nickname "The 37 pound B3" to a lot of Nord people.

Perhaps you meant "Grammy nominated" instead of "Emmy nominated"? wink

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
