I just purchased BIAB 2020 Ultra Pack. I entered chords and melody notes manually. I figured out how to play the melody using a BIAB midi track (an organ) but would like to have another instrument play the melody at the same time. How do I go about creating an empty 2nd melody track so I can experiment with other BIAB midi instruments playing at the same time as the organ? Are midi files my only option for playing melody? Without changing the style of the song itself can I experiment with different styles for the melody track(s) only instead of using midi?

Welcome aboard.

Probably the quickest way is to use the Soloist Track. You cannot (currently) add further melody Tracks. Hopefully that will get you going.

Will look into what a Soloist Track is and how it works. I wrote my first song. It's about my late wife and I'm using BIAB for accompaniment and then will record the guitar solo and vocal. Kids and grand kids will probably be the only ones to ever hear the song. I've never sang in front of them before and once they get over the laughing they'll understand why.
**
I also just purchased FL Studio which allows me to pull up a BIAB app so I can load the song directly. I'm a total newbie to recording. Never even heard of a DAW until I read about it somewhere in BIAB. Probably didn't need to buy FL Studio but with all the time on my hands during the pandemic I'll have time to learn. I miss the days of doing live gigs. Zoom is OK for keeping in touch but we haven't been able to get around the latency problem when jamming. I'm part of an open jam group at our Senior Citizens Center. Before the pandemic we did freebie gigs mostly at nursing homes. Hope we can get together and resume them again some day. Been playing guitar for the better part of 50 years.

Have a couple keyboards I'm trying to learn also. I play by ear and I'm trying to wean away from the transpose button to play everything in C.

Thanks for your advise, Veteran. Best Regards, Sandy

As VideoTracks suggested, you can transfer melody sequences between the melody and soloist channels to create your multiple melodies. Another option is to create the melodies in FL and then import the midi file into Band-in-a-Box.

Place each melody on a MIDI channel.

Assign a midi patch number (how midi identifies instruments) to each melody channel.

Save the melodies file as a MIDI file.

Open Band-in-a-Box, or BiaB, for short.

Navigate to Melody > Edit Melody Track > Import Melody From MIDI to import the midi file to the Melody track.

Navigate to Melody > Sequencer Window For Multi-Channel Melody. +++ HERE +++ is a video that explains the multi-channel sequencer.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
