Hi Folks,
Got a slight issue with "Held Chord" (...) feature.
Here is what I want to accomplish. I wanted the "holding" part be a little longer. So here is what I did: My tune has tempo of 70. Right after the bar with "held" chord I created another, empty bar, altering the tempo to 210 and than the next bar with chords back to 70. So as far as time goes, it gives me exactly what I want, BUT there is a click/pop at that empty (210 tempo) bar which is cutting into the "tails" of instruments. It would not be a simple "mute" in DAW.

Is there another way to make that "held chord" longer. The goal is to make it longer, avoiding the click/pop.

Thank you for your time!

Just a guess, but the click might be an artifact coming from attempting to use the RealTracks at three times their recommended speed. Try making one bar at 70 bpm instead of 210, but make it one beat long using F5. Adjust that timing for that one bar from 70 if need be but do not exceed 70 by 10% plus or minus.

Unless I am misunderstanding what you want to do, adding a bar of 210 will make the count (1 2 3 4) in that bar travel at 3 times the speed of the count in the bars as 70. This is because of the inverse relationship between tempo and note length. (i.e as tempo increases, the time that a quarter note is played for decreases)

If having this 210 bar gives your exactly the right length of time you want the ending to be, you're better off timing the ending and then setting all the bars in the ending section to the same tempo that will give you the calculated number of seconds.

As Matt says, if you want to make bars hold the notes longer, reduce the tempo. I regularly do this and I use f5 to reduce the first bar in the one that's marked "End" in BIAB (when automatic endings are used.) I usually use between a reduction of minus 10 - 15%

Hope this helps,
Noel

How about slowing the tempo bar of the held chord?

I often adjust one bar's tempo to change the length of a chord. It works perfectly with a MIDI style, I don't know how well it would work with a Real Track style, but it's worth a try.

The easiest thing to do (in my opinion and if I am understanding your intent) is to create a new SGU file and enter a small part of the song with your held chord at the end for several measures. You can then pasted the results into your DAW mix as appropriate.

Matt, Noel, Bob, FJ,
Thank you for your suggestions!

Yes, making a single beat bar with 70 tempo worked well for my needs! The issue was/is with tempo change. Whenever I altered it, even by -5%, it gave an "artifact" in sound. I guess that is because of particular RTs + the Held segment.

In any case, I consider this resolved (with single bar). Thank you all for your help!

Just check under the Realtrack Preferences and make sure that "Tempo/Pitch Stretching" is set to high. This might help if the setting is on the default, "Medium".

That said, some Realtracks do stretch better than others.

Great, thanks for confirming. Thinking more about this, I should have mentioned that changing the tempo matters more at slow tempos. In other words, increasing up 10 bpm at 140 is less of a problem (half the percentage increase) than doing up 10 bpm at 70. So it's important to figure percentages, not fixed integers, and you understood that with your -5% experiment.

Noel,
Thank you for suggestion. Tried that, still getting a bump, but left the setting on "High", perhaps will help in another scenario. Adding a single beat bar worked well for extended rest.

Thanks team!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
