Well, this one is special for a number of reasons, some of which I'll keep to myself, but I will tell you a couple of things about the song and recording that are big deals to me. First of all, this is a co-write with the talented Floyd Jane. And second, along with Floyd, Janice was kind enough to sing harmony on this track. Thank you, Floyd, Janice, and Bud.

This isn't a song born out of the pandemic, though it somehow seems relevant. No, it's just a song about change that's been on the shelf for several years and was suddenly ready.

Well, here goes....

Hit The Highway Again

There ain’t nothin’ wrong
With puttin’ down roots
Having a place to hang our hats
Kick off our boots

But when these walls
Start closing in
Got to get out of Dodge
Cut another notch
In the places that we’ve been

Chorus

Hit the highway again
Throwing caution to the wind
Destination who knows where
Pick a dot, baby, I don’t care
Let’s hit the highway again

There’s a blacktop with a white line
Runnin’ through this town
Now we can take it nice and slow
Or put the hammer down

And leave right now
Or light out with the sunrise at our heels
It’s the land of the free
It’s time that we
Remember how it feels

Repeat Chorus

Bridge

We got a Silverado for rough terrain
I’ll be ridin’ shotgun
You can take the reins

Break

Scott and team,
A pro collaboration! Clean modern country tune. Vocals, mix, everything done well and listens easy. Partly it seems personal, but this feels universal:
"It’s the land of the free
It’s time that we
Remember how it feels"

Thank you for sharing!

Perfect production, fine singing, I liked the line "pick a dot..." Excellent work. Very clean sound, both vocals and instruments, I found myself listening for some dirt but that is just a matter of personal taste. Congratulations on a fine tune!

Nice tune. I like the lyrics. The lead guitar sounds cool. I would have moved it off the vocal as to not cover the voice. But that is just me. Everything else just fell in place.

Perhaps we all miss "how it use to be", finding escape in a car. Route 66 and all that.

Scott,
Yes, we can hear the Floyd in this excellent write ( I`m not familiar with your music but it sounds like you guys are kindred musical spirits).
A very good natural and energetic vocal, fine harmonies and a tight band - well done to all involved!

Pro sound, excellent vocal, excellent write and mix.

Agree with Ray wouldn't have been surprised to hear this on a Jackson Browne album, and an excellent use of the slide RT adds to that sound.

Great choice on recruiting your backing vocalists who sound great in the mix.

Well done to all involved.

Hi Scott
Completely professional sounding package. Great vocal and harmonies. I agree the tone of that slide is very reminiscent of David Lindley on a Jackson Browne tune. Excellent collaboration.

Leon

That slide is straight off Jackson Brown's epic Running on Empty.

Very good work from all.

We worked on this song years ago.
Then Scott took it over.
I don't remember specifics, but I don't think there is much of me left in this.
So, Scott really deserves the credit for how it turned out.

Janice, Thanks! a bunch for joining me to do the harmonies!!

Having recently read Guitarhacker's 10 Co-Writing Commandments, I am now bound to the code, but I believe I can make a few comments without getting into too much trouble.

Foremost, this is absolutely a co-write and a co-production and any credit belongs to the team.

Floyd and I didn't quite finish this song together, but there was little left to do when we stopped working on it. Floyd is such a prolific songwriter who collabs with so many people on so many projects, it's no wonder he doesn't remember some of the details, but let me tell 'ya, his contributions were huge. We started with a basic melody, a style, and some lyrics, but the title was something else, the chorus was different, the verses were not developed. Floyd transformed the song into what it is.

And when he and Janice offered to lend their voices to the project, well, that was icing on the cake.

Thanks for the spins and the feedback. I'll swing back around later and respond to some of the comments.

Be well.

Scott

Ironically...those were written by Clay Mills.

Scott - that was a very gracious response...

When you say 'dirt' do you mean saturation? There's not very much to the mix really, just some eq and comp on instruments. There's no tape emulation. The 'Grit' setting on the T-Racks Bus Compressor may have been on though. Thanks for the spin and the feedback.

From the beginning the RT's together created that vibe. We appreciate the listen.

"Nausea Pop Rock w Amplitube Bass"?

I thought that was a typo, but nope! laugh

Anyway, this song couldn't be further from that description. Nice track, but your vocal was the real star here.

Easygoing write, catchy melody - I enjoyed the listen.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?
