I'm trying to enter a chord change on the 3rd beat of a 3/4 measure. When I enter a ",A" the A chord is applied to the second beat, however, I want it on the 3rd beat. In other words, the measure contains one half-beat and one quarter-beat and the chord change should happen on the quarter beat (3rd beat). Probably a simple solution, but I have yet to find it. Thanks!

Hi Greg,

A BIAB chordsheet cell contains two locations. If you click on the left side of the cell, you'll be in the beats 1 & 2 location. If you click on the right-side of the cell, you're in the beats 3 & 4 location. In 3/4 time, while beat 4 is still present in the cell, and chords can be entered on it, it does not play.

Now for your problem.

1. Click on the left end of the chordsheet cell/bar (towards the bar number).

2. Enter chord -- let's say C

3. Click somewhere in the right-side of the cell/bar (towards the following bar number) and enter a chord -- let's say F

If you do that, you should get what you're after provided you have a 3/4 style loaded.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. The comma separator that you used allows a user to enter chords on beats 2 and 4.

This example is for 4/4
So if I want to enter 4 chords into a cell, say | C F C G7 |, I'd...

1. click on the left side of the cell

2. type C,F and press enter

3. click on the right side of the cell

4, type C,G7 and press enter

Huh? That answer confused me. He is in 3/4. There is no 4 in this case. I found doing waltzes to treat the left half of the measure as 1 and 2 and the right half of the measure as 3. I kind of wish that could be changed to ONE entry cell for 3/4 time signatures and use a comma, like c,c,f c,c,f for separation into 1-2-3 1-2-3.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Yea me also. In 3/4 time if I type in C,C F with both Cs in the left half and the F in the right half all is well. BUT if I type C in the left half and C,F in the right half all I hear is a measure of Cs.

Noel is right in that the 4th input in a measure will not sound so in his example the G7 would not sound. I'm with you in that why is there a 4 chord input option in 3/4 tine when you can only hear the first three?

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I believe that Noel's "P.S." was to demonstrate the purpose of the comma separator only, and not related to a 3/4 time signature, which was answered in his previous discussion.

Yes, Trev, that was the aim. Since the user had already mentioned using a comma, I thought I should cover it. I definitely could have been much clearer when I replied, though.

I'll go and amend it now. (Thanks for picking it up Eddie and Mario.)

All the best to you all,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
