This is a pretty simple song that I wrote and recorded. The particulars are:

C_Piano Country Piano - Country Ballad
BPM - 85
36 Fretless Elec. Bass
1 Acoustic Piano
49 Strings (Pad) - (I think)

I always like to put a little "real" instrumentation that I played on each recording, so I added:

Piano (single notes during chorus and at end) played on Yamaha PSRE403, recorded into Mixcraft 5 via Cl1 interface.

Stings (during break) played on Yamaha PSRE403, recorded into Mixcraft 5 via Cl1 interface.

Vocals - SP1 mic into Mixcraft 5 via Cl1 interface.

Thank for any listens and comments. Here is:

When You Come Home

When You Come Home

I'll be here for you
When you come home, love
I'll be here for you
When you come home

When you come home to me
When you come home to me

Winter nights were long
Without you here, love
Winter nights were long
Without you here

But springtime is blooming
Springtime is abloom

Why leave me here
Why leave me here
Why leave me here all alone?

I'll shower you with love
When you come home, dear
I'll shower you with love
When you come home

When you come home to me
When you come home to me

When you come home to me

jpt3,

A beautiful song. A heart-felt vocal. A simplicity reminiscent of "You Are So Beautiful".

The instrumentation works well - chording piano and strings (the piano sound is a bit "fuzzy").

I like it.

A strong emotional song. Great lyric and arrangement. Lots of passion in the vocal. Simplicity, such as this, can be worth a million bucks, whereas overly-complicated can sound like a bargain basement kazoo. the simplicity works here ... good choice!

Just one tiny nit ... and I think it's really more a personal preference than a nit ... the vocal is just a wee bit "boomy" in places. Certainly not enough to negate the fine listen and great effort put into this project. Perhaps a slight drop of the lower EQ on the vocal, or, perhaps a little more medium-high EQ.

As I said, it definitely doesn't detract from the joy of listening to the song ... loved the listen! Just a thought FWIW.

Thanks for the listening pleasure. I truly enjoyed it a lot!

Wishing you the very best. Be safe ...

Alan

Very heartfelt and emotive both in the write and performance.

And at the end of the day, that's what matters I think.

Nicely done!

Lovely.
Def brings You Are So beautiful to mind.
I think the thumping piano is a bit too much in the intro at least..it could do with some rhythmic variation to bust up that four to the floor feeling.
Otherwise...there's a little halo around your voice in parts of this that may be proximity effect or the reverb you're using.
Lovely stuff.

Cheers

Sounds like a song that could become a standard, it's that good. Way to go!

Thank you everyone for the listens and comments. I appreciate it very much.

I agree that the mix could use some firming up although my system is slowing making that more difficult. My PC, Mixcraft, and BnB are all very outdated (circa 2012 and earlier).

Sometime simple is best.

Your vocal reminds me a bit of J D Souther, which is a great fit for this song.

All the comments about the mix have already been made.

I remember the pain of having a mix that would bring my old system to its knees. blush

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

The great melody and backing allow your heartfelt vocal to deliver the lyric in a most expressive way ... very nice.

And the bits you added work well.

As someone mentioned it sounds like a classic.

Well done!

jptjptjpt,
Good, smooth composition and vocals.
I agree with some mix comments above. Also, vocals have certain electronic artifacts, which are a bit distracting...
Lately I took a slightly different approach to my tunes. After I record one, I would let it brew in my head for a few days, then come back to it, mute vocals and re-record it. Sure, it is extra effort (and sometimes not painless at all), but most of the time it is rewarding at the end. I find it hard to return to older tunes, but something that was done within a week or two usually works well. I encourage you to try it. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

Jpt3,

Love the melody and arrangement—very compelling. There is a depth of emotion here that emanates from these lyrics—and the pained vocal really delivers. More gravitating the more you listen to it. Really well done!

All my best,

Here I go piggybacking on Floyd again.....why reinvent the wheel! Very nice song!! I would use a different piano patch that is warmer and more acoustic. Great work!! Take care. Greg

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
