This Started as a sort of companion piece to an earlier track (On Third Thought) in that both were explorations of chord changes in three different modes. It was originally envisioned to be a Rock piece in the general flavor of Pink Floyd, maybe, with a sort of cinematic middle section. It even went to DAW with that plan in mind. However in producing/mixing I became enamored more with the acoustic lead and reimagined the whole thing, going back to BIAB for some additional "flavor" tracks. It's basic form is ABCAB Out, with each letter representing a progression harmonized to a different mode, essentially. In production, since there is no vocal, I tried to keep changing feels, dynamics, and sounds to keep this entertaining for three and a half minutes. I used delay on the flute and on the second drum track. Mastered in Ozone 8 Elements, "Indie" preset with a little additional stereo widening. This is something I wanted to do, obviously, but it is also intended to distract me from finishing my "magnum opus". Enjoy, if possible. All comments welcome, and I will try to evaluate and use any mixing suggestions. This is the first mix in many years I've done with monitors as well as 'phones.

This is a really cool song. Loved the intro and guitar was excellent. That is a serious instrument selection. Everything fit so well together. Mix was perfect...

I agree with Scott - the intro got my attention. Not everything fit together for me... but it never got boring!

Really interesting piece. The chord changes kept it that way.

Tangmo, Some of the chord changes took me by surprise. A good way to "wake up the ears". The acoustic lead sounds good - like someone actually played to the track. Nice list of RTs Well mixed. Cool ending with the hints of electric. Enjoyed. fj

The acoustic lead covers all those changes well... its quite the soundtrack, my preference being for the rockier last half.At times some of the instrumentation distracts for me ( the flute), but then I`m seeing my own movie as it plays!

Howdy ...
I like the variations in this one. The slight build-up at the end was a nice touch. At that point, it gave me hints of a Pink Floyd sound. I did find the flute from 1:19 to about 1:35 a little distracting. However, it didn't take anything from the enjoyment of the song.
It was a nice mesh of melody and instrument selection. The acoustic guitar was particularly good! Nicely done!
Wishing you the very best. Be safe ...
Alan

Tangmo,
Very rich acoustic sound to this—that acoustic lead really shines. Really nice layered textures in the backing music with the strings and flute. Seamless shifts in tones and feels—really well orchestrated and arranged. Very engaging instrumental!
All my best,
Deej

Tangmo, Excellent "chord exploration" tune. Look at all the tracks! For the most part they get along very well with each other, but I thought that flute and strings contradicted in a few places. I guess that is the nature of soloist tracks.. I think, rhythm based flute would work better. Perhaps chops of soloist? In any case, quite interesting and unusual work with many tasty mood changes. Thank you for sharing! Misha. P.S. I think BIAB desperately need straight (or near) rhythm winds and brass

16 tracks in my DAW would make my head spin.
The creativity, musical knowledge and mixing finesse needed to pull this off is most inspiring. Wow!
We listened three times back to back and don't feel that we have begun to grasp the nuances, etc. Will return for more.
I think your intriguing progressions really opened the door for the solo RT's (and the flute) to "show their stuff" as they sound tailor made for the production.
A bit overwhelming, actually, in its richness.
This is a remarkable display of the power of BiaB in talented hands.

Works for me, especially liked the acoustic lead.
You held my attention throughout the entire piece seeing where you were going to take it.
Mix sounds great through the 'phones.
Enjoyed the listen, well done.

Interesting compilation of instruments. Kinda like watching a flock of birds, generally flying together but, occasionally making sharp turns leaving a few stragglers to catch up with the flock.
I could definitely hear the Pink Floyd flavor, that could easily be developed with a few alternate mixing choices. Well done.

Cascading water, sky sparkles, prancing coyotes, a mantis devouring a butterfly, a crescent moon. That's what I see when I hear this.
Beautifully and ingeniously textured.
I was engrossed from start to finish.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
