Installed 2020 (730) version, Windows 10, yesterday. Installed all the downloads, can see the appropriate folders & files in Explorer. But get this message when attempting to select a style. It is possible to select a style from folder view. Any ideas? Thanks.

Access violation at address 00000000007F5A40 in module 'bbw64.exe'. Read of address 0000000000000950.

Can you detail the exact sequence of steps leading to this error, including the name of the style that you select? First reboot the program if the error has occurred during the session.

I can't select a style. OK, I run BIAB 64 bit, as Administrator. An Untitled song & ZZJAZZ.STY style appear. Just 1st bar is seen as chord C. This will play.

I click on Style Picker icon, upper half, then access violation message appears.

I click OK, then the exception error message appears, repeating alos the access violation message.

I click OK. I click upper half style picker icon, nothing happens.

I click lower half and select Band Styles. This produce a drop down list of Jazz, Country, Pop etc headings. > icon produces a greyed out, not selectable, list of subdivision styles.

Is this what you wanted to know? Thanks.

Thanks. Can you access other dialogs, such as the RealTracks Picker (right-click on a track along the top of the screen..)? Can you press Play and then view notation in the notation window?

Was this a 'fresh install', or did you have a previous version of Band-in-a-Box?

As a test, close the program and create a file called safemode.txt in the bb\Preferences folder. Run again (should say "safe mode" on the splash screen) and see if the error still happens.

Fresh install to default locations. Real Tracks Picker fails, same error message. Then dialogue box, C:\bb\RealTracks, opens with no data. Error message is seen when closing this box.
Press Play seems to work OK, I can add chord symbols that seem to work, I can hear the sound OK.

SafeMode.txt created, saw SAFE MODE on splash screen. Same problems as before. SafeMode text file empty after closing programme.

Thanks.

When you get the error, there should be a button to view the full report, and/or the error log should be saved in the bb folder. Could you please attach the report here?(you can click the File Manager link and attach a text file)

Do you have an "N" edition of Windows? And if so, have you installed the "Media Feature Pack"?

Standard commercial edition of Windows 10 not N version. Here’s the file you requested. Thanks.

An exception error has occurred. You can continue to use the program, but should likely save your work and reboot program.

Are you able to play any .wma file with Windows Media Player? For example, you could find one in "\bb\RealTracks\Data\Style Demos Audio".

Arturotrumpets:

I noticed you stated "Fresh install to default locations."

But in the memory dump, it is showing your BIAB location as:

C:\bbnewinstall\bbw64.exe

That directory location is showing up 13 times in the memory dump.

That directory is not the default location for BIAB installs.

It should be C:\bb

Not sure if that has anything to do with your problem but is just an observation I pickup up on.

Hi chaps, thanks for your interest. Yes, .wma tracks play in WMP. In BITB I CAN select and use styles from the "open files from disc" dialogue. But this is useless as the file names are almost meaningless, naturally.

I've installed, uninstalled & re-installed 3 times. Here's the first part of the current error message:

Standard commercial edition of Windows 10 not N version. Here’s the file you requested. Thanks.

An exception error has occurred. You can continue to use the program, but should likely save your work and reboot program.

My suggestion is to call out to PG Music Support (someone from them may come along here hopefully). I suspect that if you have completely uninstalled and reinstalled by following all standard installation procedures (yes?) then they will be able to assist to diagnose, maybe including remote access at your discretion.

Does it fail if you launch the program in 32bit mode? I.E. Running BBW.EXE instead of BBW64.EXE

I had this problem with 730 and "fixed" it by backing out to 722.

Is this easy to find? I'm prepared to give it a try, otherwise I'm now considering deleting it all & requesting a full refund. Thanks.

Thanks, yes, did that 2 days ago by email. No reply yet. Did the online Chat, nothing they suggested (simple stuff) worked.

Hi,

I don't suggest that you delete the program, since we are still trying to fix this problem, and that will not benefit anyone. Trying an older build is a good suggestion. You can download build 722 from here:
https://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#722

Please do this and tell us if the error still occurs.

Thanks. Should I uninstall the current version before installing 722, or will they sit alongside each other?

BB will let you go back to previous Builds. If 722 (or whatever) works as you (and we) expect, then let us know - and Andrew of course.
I've had to do this Roll Back in the past and its allowed me to continue using BB whilst Andrew & Co get to grips with it.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
