They are very good at what they do, but again I ask, is this going to get them a record deal and shows in the Enormodome in every city that has one?

They can self produce CDs of this kind of stuff and sell them to friends and family but short of a deep youtube crawl or word of mouth how would Steve in Wichita (Big Bang Theory reference) even know they exist? Is one of them Larkin and one of them Poe or is one named Larkin Poe and the other gets no billing? Have they written anything? I mean, have they tried to write?

At least with Sonny and Cher, we knew! Which begs the question be asked WHO did Sonny Bono know to get a record deal, much less have Phil Spector produce him, because he couldn't sing at all. (Or ski, apparently.) And Cher, with that sheep tremolo voice, is annoying. And I mean, she married SONNY BONO!!!

There are a lot of talented people out there playing covers in bars that are very good, but they will never be a prime time playa in the music business doing it. Best rock sax player I ever heard is the guy in our Southside Johnny tribute band, but he will never get out of Northeast Ohio because nobody knows his name, and his original stuff is just him improvising. No structure, no verse, chorus, bridge-ness to it. That doesn't mean he isn't great. He is. It just means he isn't going to progress. Plus his age is against him.

Remember there is a karaoke singer at every karaoke night that sings as well as those 2. That doesn't equal stardom. True that not everybody sets out to try and become that big star, but if you are going to perform at all, dream big.

Since you asked... According to Wikipedia, he was Phil Spector's assistant, and a successful songwriter and promoter (among other things):
Quote:
Bono decided early in life to become part of the music business, and began writing songs as a teenager. "Koko Joe", a song he wrote at age 16, was recorded by Don and Dewey in 1958, and later covered by several other artists including The Righteous Brothers. Bono attended Inglewood High School, but did not graduate, opting to drop out so he could begin to pursue a career as a songwriter and performer. He worked at a variety of jobs while trying to break into the music business, including waiter, truck driver, construction laborer, and butcher's helper.

Bono began his music career as a songwriter at Specialty Records, where his song "Things You Do to Me" was recorded by Sam Cooke, and went on to work for record producer Phil Spector in the early 1960s as a promotion man, percussionist and "gofer". One of his earliest songwriting efforts, "Needles and Pins" was co-written with Jack Nitzsche, another member of Spector's production team. Later in the same decade, he achieved commercial success with his wife Cher in the singing duo Sonny and Cher. Bono wrote, arranged and produced a number of hit records including the singles "I Got You Babe" and "The Beat Goes On", although Cher received more attention as a performer. He played a major part in Cher's solo recording career, writing and producing singles including "Bang Bang" and "You Better Sit Down Kids".

As for Cher marrying Sonny, she was a 16-year-old high-school dropout who wanted to be a star and he was 28 and an assistant to record producer Phil Spector.

Besides, she says she was crazy about him, which seems to be the usual reason for getting married. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

The last time I did it was because she made a lot of money.

They do a ton of original stuff too. As far as getting to the Enormodome, I did see a video of them sharing the stage recently with Joe Bonamassa.

Well there you go. When you play with the doughboy from Pittsburgh that's a pretty big deal. Is there video on youtube of their original work? If they can write worth anything, I'm in.

EDIT: Just did my research. They are indeed the real deal. I initially though they were a couple of kids who play "down tuh the VF Dubya" that nobody outside of their town of 200 people ever heard of. That is not the case. They are doing a world tour in 2021. It may not be the Enormodomes, but they get to play in like 50 cities around the world and I don't. I had just never heard of them before as that isn't the kind of act I do a deep dive search for on youtube. Very good though.

Joe Bonamassa & Larkin Poe - Spoonful - KTBA Cruise 2019

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWBg_xVqT_4

https://www.larkinpoe.com/

One of the many cool things about these sisters is that they not only play a lot of blues and rock festivals, they also do a lot of bluegrass festivals. The brunette also plays banjo and mandolin. She does the computer, DAW and backing track work for the group too.

They have about 5 or 6 CD's so if you're interested to see which songs are originals you can figure it out. LOL

Thanks for sharing these - I'd never heard of them before. I particularly liked that Moody Blues cover. Will have to check out more of their work smile

That Jolene cover was pretty great!

Here are two of my favourite covers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl9GtO_vQxw An excellent mashup of the Foo Fighters and Bobby Caldwell

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rakape74oNY A very different cover of Lennon's Imagine, done in a minor key

Check out my friend Anne De Chant. Singer SONGWRITER who left Cleveland for Nashville and never looked back. For sure play Sunday Morning Drive, Water In Whiskey, Go Get Joe, The Sun Coming In and Into Me. They are all great songs, but those are my faves.

She's got some cool songs, but "Go Get Joe" is the one I like the best.

She almost brought a tear to my eyes with that one.

She is amazing. Known her since she was a "young to me" kid of like 24 back in 1992. She moved to Nashville maybe 12 years ago. Rolled the dice and went for it.

Eddie.. I would say that Larkin Poe are probably not interested in a record deal. They are probably quite happy with the mound of money they are getting from YouTube ads.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
