I would like to request a new function “user interface/menue” to be added to BIAB 2021 to provide a simple “Strum Machine” with basic and simple functions like the “Strum Machine” https://strummachine.com/.

It ought to be trivial to add a function like that in BIAB.
It might also to be a good opportunity to bring back/in users of the Strum Machine into BIAB.

I have received some suggestions here on the forum on how to use BIAB as a strumming machine but I don’t get it to sound like I want to. It does not sound as I want it to sound and it is too complicated.

I just want very basic guitar strumming as backing to my practicing (as in the Strum Machine”) and I find most RealTracks to complex.
I think there may be many users who would like to have an option like that. Some comments from users of the Strum Machine is that they have moved over from Band in a Box to Strum Machine because it is too complicated in BIAB.

(yes I know I could put in the chords and look up a style and deselect the instruments I don’t want and change the instruments to what I want but I never get it to sound as I want. The playing is too complex. I want a much simpler sound/playing like the Strum Machine see link above).

Band-in-a-Box already has the functionality you request. What it doesn't have is the song library.

Take a look at the "Campfire" styles. Most are one or two acoustic guitars and bass. They should give you the simple backing tracks you desire.

Strum Machine has a 1,000 song library of campfire type songs. Midi files of many of those songs, and many more, are available for download from the internet. Import the midi file to obtain key, tempo and chord information. Save the song file and you have the song.

Unlike Strum Machine, once you've created your song library, you don't even have to access the internet to practice or pay a subscription fee.

That is exactly how I am doing it today.
Sometimes it sounds ok but most time it does not sound as I want it to sound.
Everything sounds the same!
I have allmost all the styles there is but I can only find 8-10 campfire styles and they are basically only 2-3 different guitar strums that are used and then added second guitar, base, fingerpicking etc.
All songs sound more or less the same (often very lame) there is no way to get any variation in the intensity of strumming or variation.
Maybe whats needed are more "campfire" styles to chose from. I don't know. I only know that the backing track does not sound as I want it to sound.

re strums.
if you want variety , experimentation is the key imho.
i just went into both the stylepicker and the real traks pickers .
lots of strums. acoustics, electrics ,12 strings etc etc.
just put in search the word strum or strumming.

just enter in the chord sheet a number of chords/changes, load an instrument,
etc etc. solo and export the strummed instrument to your daw.
also in your daw if you have an instant clik trak generator AND it allows sample insert; you can insert a strum as a sample, and it will strum away.

remember also choose a , for example, strummed acoustic, insert it on the soloist channel though and NOW go to solist in the menus, and choose generate a solo. EXPERIMENT. try the melodist also. i did a number of tests and found pretty simple strums like you wanted .

also if you dont want chord changes. and want simple, just enter one chord in the biab chord sheet.

best
muso.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
