Recently I came across Jacob Collier and his reharmonizations. He uses a lot of polychords. Since I did not find anything about polychords in the help section of BB, I wonder if this could be included in a future issue of BB?

There are instances where Polychords could be utilized to take BiaB to another level entirely.

Great suggestion, and +1

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Polychords as in two chords played on top of each other at the same time? Isn't that more of a music transcription shorthand than something played in popular music?

Jim, you are right about what it is. As far as shorthand, that’s right too. I can say polychords are used in jazz, particularly modal jazz. I’m not sure where the sound would be needed in ‘popular’ music.

The shorthand concept is why I suggested in an earlier thread about entering the notes on a keyboard and seeing if a more conventional spelling is possible. Sometimes it will be, but sometimes it will not.

Polychords, as in triads over triads, are sometimes heard in pop music, but rarely notated, at least I haven’t seen it yet.
Stevie Wonder plays lydian (CLydian) by stacking Bm on top of Ctriad.

Thing with polychords is... at this moment Biab isn’t able to play advanced chords right, not in the bass part, piano part and certainly not in the horns or strings parts.

And it doesn’t correctly interpret slash chords either.

Adding polychords with advanced polytonal structures would make for some very strange noise.

PGmusic should step up their game if they ever want to implement this.

I only had a quick look at these, but:
How would you work it in ? All the realtracks so far are recorded normal chords.
What format would these be entered in the chord sheet, with a D-CMaj7 D-Ab-G ?
How would the other instruments without polychords read them ?
How many polychords would you need to record along with the other chords in a realtrack ?
Maybe use midi that can duplicate the notes of one chord being played in the recorded material and fit them into the other omitting existing, and have another chord sheet layer for these chords ?????
Have you tried this with a MidiSuperTrack ?

Does Band-in-a-Box support poly chords using midi if you write in poly chords?

Yes if you play a C triad in BiaB then in either notation or the piano roll view add the B-D-F# over the C-E-G. I would do that in a DAW because if you regenerate without freezing that track(s) you would loose everything you added. But that could be a long and tedious project.

Impro-Visor in free
55. Slash Chords and Polychords
Slash chords (which specify a bass note after the slash) are indicated with a forward slash, such as D/E.

Polychords (one chord stacked atop another) are indicated with a backward slash, such as D\Bb.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
