Well....I didn't see another thread so thought I'd chime in with a Happy Birthday to all my Brothers out there.
My sincerest respect to ALL that serve/have served Honorably in the branch of their choice.
Not many choose to do so.

Have a great day and Semper Fi.

Make sure you all go take advantage of the freebies on Wednesday. I have a route set up where I hit 8 Sheetz gas stations for a 6 inch sub and a drink as well as 8 Little Caesar's pizza shops for a free lunch pizza and drink. That will be food for a week! That I don't have to pay for!!!

I love free!

Thanks gents for chiming in.

Eddie1261....
I'm in rural Kansas so all those little perks aren't ubiquitous out here.
TBH...I haven't taken any advantage of those sorts of perks.
I'd be kind of embarrassed to tell a proprietor "I'm a veteran" to get something free.
I don't draw attention to myself or my service/experiences in this context.
But, that's just my hangup. smile
Respect to you for serving.

bobflatpicker and DannyC....
Thanks for chiming in with your thoughts.
Yep....today in Veteran's day and there's not many who choose to serve.

Have a great day everyone.

Thanks for chiming in Steve.
I went to boot camp in San Diego also.
But...that was back in the Pleistocene Epoch. (Sept 1st 1965)

Have a great day all....

And that's what happens when you get a couple of patriots in a bar, drinking beer, and talking about shooting things.

"Hey... I got an idea.... why don't we start a group where we can drink beer and then get out rifles and go out and shoot things.... and we can get the navy to float us around in their boats so we can go other places too and drink beer and shoot more things..... "

And so, the United States Marine Corps was formed at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia.

Semper Fi fellow leather necks.

Strange story you US Marine Veterans may not have heard. The Marine Corps has a mandate to either (1) modify San Diego and Parris Island boot camps to provide fully integrated training to male and female boots or (2) close both camps and create one boot camp that can fulfill the mission.

Did they not see GI Jane?

I don't know about G.I Jane but I do know the US Armed Forces we remember no longer exists. Forty percent of those wanting to enlist are female and one hundred percent of all enlistees are volunteers.

I remember the farce that was Shannon Faulkner all too well. Those of you who may not remember or are not American can Google her. In short she made a big deal of trying to enroll in The Citadel, a military college in South Carolina. She did it mainly as a publicity stunt to bring attention to herself despite her claims that she did it to be a martyr for women in the future. After almost 2 years of legal posing, she went out for her first day of physical training and 4 hours later was in the infirmary with heat stroke, and when she got out 5 days later she resigned. Yet she continues to say she is an alumni of The Citadel. Recent photos of her, now 44 and a junior high English teacher, make it clear that even in 1995 at 19 years of age she could never have met the rigorous physical requirements. She continues to accept steep speaking fees as "The first woman to attend The Citadel." For one week.

I am woman, Hear me scam.

And THAT is your armed forces anymore.

The intentions were misguided by both Ms. Faukner and The Citadel. Many male cadets suffer from heat stroke and wash out.

In the sixties and seventies The Citadel's wash out rate was above sixty percent. In the latest statistics reported, 29.2 percent of the 2015 class, with a gender ratio of 87 percent male and 13 percent female, failed to graduate.

The United States Armed Forces could not meet its obligations without the contributions of its female troops. There just aren't enough capable male volunteers and the military leadership do not want a return to conscription.

What angered me was how obvious it was that this was a publicity stunt. Knowing she was going to face the most stern and aggressive physical challenge of her life, by her own admission she did absolutely no conditioning training in the time prior that the lawyers were fighting in court. She had over a year while the legal wrangling went on. Not one pushup, one lap around a running track....

Nobody has ever come out to say that GI Jane was based on Faulkner, but the similarities always made me think so. Then again, what do I know?

They've had WAMs at PI for quite a while. I think they had them there when I was in. Early 70's. They had the best barricks in the center of the base.....and that part of the base was "off limits" to us recruits.

In my opinion, the US military is not a place to be conducting social experiments. It is a place to train men to kill by any and all means possible to defend the country from enemies foreign and domestic. If women want to join, that's cool. There are things they can do that are needed.....(redacted the rest of this)

The smell of that island is forever etched in my memory.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
