I'm using biab 2020 for MAC build 420...

I have sgu and mgu files from a friend who uses biab 2019 for windows.

A new WAV file is created every time I open one of his files and I can not find a way to stop this from happening. I don't believe I use or need the WAV file.

I also have to mute the Audio in the mixer or Bar Settings ! If I do not do that, I think the wav file is playing while I play a song in biab.

I don't have this problem with .SGU files that I have created with my MAC biab.

Thank you to anyone who can help me understand what is causing this!!

answer is simple.
its happening cos thats the way your friend set it up in his biab.
just tell him to send you biab files MINUS the wav audio trak. OR just delete the audio trak and resave.

Thank you justanoldmuso!

I only receive the .SGU file from my friend.

I delete the WAV file but it is recreated every time I open the .SGU file in biab.

I have 'killed the audio' under 'Edit Audio' menu and re-saved.

So far I can't find a way to prevent re-creating the WAV file every time I open the SGU.

I must be missing something but don't know what is causing biab to create the WAV file when I open.

thanks!

i'm on win , but i cant see it being any different for you.
ask your friend if he has created audio performance traks .

please tell me when you receive the file from your friend
and BEFORE you load it in biab, go into the folder where
your friends file resides and ascertain its SIZE.
is it a few K ? like a normal biab song file OR is it BIG MEGABYTES. tell me what your mac says as to size.
if the latter ,megabytes, go into the folder and look for the wav and delete it. to trash.
NOW open the file in biab and tell me if all is ok.
or is wav still created ?

best.
muso.

thank you again justanoldmuso for your help !!!

The original SGU file is 4kb, some are 70 to 80 kb. He does not give me any other files. Some of these have melody or solo tracks but I 'kill' them in the biab menus and biab still creates a WAV file when I re-open the SGU.
thanks.

difficult without being there.
please post a desktop pic so i and others can see what your biab chord view looks like. so i dont steer you wrong.
if , for example i load up RT's (which are audio samples played by top musicians) audio is created once one generates.
then each RT can be exported to multi track software for mixing. (please look at the pg vids here at pg. lots of them.)
it sounds to me like you want your friend to send you a songs with only midi styles.
i suspect your friend has sent you real trak styles.

best.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
