Hi,

This is the second attempt at a drum track with the new Superior Drummer software. I took the bass line out of EZbass and had Trillian play it out. I then used EZkeys for the piano part.

You could now go to BIAB and develop any other instrumentation that you like. I can post the stems if anyone would like them.

This is just 12 bars.

After working a few hours with Superior Drummer I am finding it pretty easy to use.

Cheers,

Looks like you are having lots of fun! How are you finding EZBass (BTW I liked that walking bassline). EZBass was released with a huge fanfare 6 months ago and I have not heard much endorsement since then. What do you think of it? A must have??

That is sort of a two part answer. First EZbass has many pretty standard bass patterns. It even calls a walking bass line walking bass...what a concept...lol I have been happy enough I would not send it back if I could.
Also if you can play bass on guitar or keyboard it is less valuable but still pretty fast in any event.

Part two...I not super impressed with the sound it produces and yes you can alter the sound in your DAW and come up with something pretty nice. At that point for me it is just less of an issue to go in the other room and grab my bass guitar and DI into the board.

So...Part Three...Trillian...This is a really top notch sounding bass VST but it is pretty pricey. I resisted for a long time before I got it. Standard for me now is to find the midi in EZbass and have Trillian play it out. Large learning curve.

There are also a lot of pretty good bass tracks in BIAB but most are also pretty generic. At first I thought the Real Tracks were really great, but the more I try to use them the more I wish many of them were midi. There are some stellar guitar Real Tracks by Brent Mason and some others he has done that I don't understand why he put his name on them.

So...bottom line, yes it is worth the money. I have a lot of Toontracks stuff. A very few midi packs I did not find useful but a well designed product in any event. Superior Drummer is hands down the best drum program I ever used. Having said that I still have a real Hi Hat, no room for a drum kit.

The only real complaint I have about any of this software is the amount of time spent messing around with software and not playing guitar or piano.

Cheers,

Billy

But the good thing is once you have tight drum and bass tracks the rest will fall into place much more smoothly!

That is true Steve. I have always been able to deal with the bass track even if I have to write it out note for note in standard notation. EZbass just makes things easy. Having this new drum program is solving major issues for me.

The same issue exist playing live. If you don't have a bottom, you don't have a band.

It solves a lot of issues for me with BIAB. Once I have a bass track and drum track, BIAB becomes much less of a problem for me to use.

Cheers,

Billy

You are very welcome Dan. We should get together on Zoom sometime.

Cheers,

Billy

EDIT: I see Trilian is on sale for $279. Normally $299, not much of a sale. They are a small company in LA I think. The guy who started the company was a design engineer for Roland. I think the company is growing but still pretty small, perhaps fifteen to twenty employees. They probably can not afford to discount a huge amount.
