I believe RB 2021 is only 64 bit? and that the 32 bit version is the 2020 program. Is that correct? Are there any new RB features I will really miss if I stick with 32 bit? That's my first question.

Second, my 32 bit dxi version of the Edirol Hyper canvas (the same sounds as the TTS1 but that version is probably 64 bit?) obviously won't work. However, i have the boxed retail version and I have the option to install the vst synth.

I see the 64 bit BIAB has the option to use either a dxi or vst synth as the default so am I right that if i install the vst hypercanvas RB 64 bit will have the same option and jbridge will make it work with a 64 bit host?

presumably the vst version will work as a GM2 synth like the dxi version?

i like the hypercanvas sounds and as i rarely use midi these days for new tracks i am recording if i do need to add a midi track for a signature lick for example, I can open the 32 bit version, use the dxi synth and make a wav file and import that to the 64 bit RB? clunky but a working solution.

but if the hypercanvas vst will work i see that BIAB 64 bit autonaticallly picks up the synthfont 64 bit, so will RB 64 bit automatically pick up the hypercanvas? or will i have to search for it and add it manually? and will jbridge automatically kick in?

or as a final question, can i download cakewalk, get the tts1 64bit free and then delete the rest of cakewalk? my c drive is a little short of space but i do have a second hard drive with more room if that helps

Install the VST and try it.
I'm assuming it will work fine as long as it is VST (not DXi).

.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

thanks rharv - i just needed a little encouragement to try it. the edirol is ages old and needs a patch to run on windows 10 and the vst is a plugin not a simple synth like the dxi version but the hypercnavas now loads in BIAB 2020 64 bit

the midi driver window is a bit misleading because the hypercanvas does not appear in the drop down with the other vsts but still loads in the first slot as default synth

If you have a 64-bit version of a DXi (for example, I have both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Cakewalks TTS-1 synth installed), it will work in 64-bit RealBand. As will 64-bit versions of VSTi's.

If you have a 32-bit VSTi (not DXi), and you have jBridge, it should still work (jBridge works both ways: 64-bit VST(i)'s for 32-bit hosts and 32-bit VST(i)'s for 64-bit hosts). Just as long as the are VST 2.0 (does not work for VST3).

thanks jford the 32 bit vst seems to work fine with jbridge and as i use midi less and less these days i think moving to 64 bit RB will be painless.

just hope that jbridge handles all the plugins i've been using

I would highly suggest that before you open any existing songs in 64-bit, you go ahead and pre-populate RealBand with all the VST/VSTi's you will be using. If RB doesn't find one in the list, it just defaults to the port number with nothing loaded (and doesn't prompt you to find the appropriate plugin). I've asked for this, but it hasn't happened yet.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
