Been using BIAB to create backing tracks for a few years now.
The tracks I've made are pro quality, use both for recording and performing
I produce .wav files from biab and mix/automation/master in a DAW (logic).

What other software products do people use to replaces existing BIAB parts. Equally important, which part seems "easiest" to replace - drums, bass, keys, guitar?

I've messed a little replacing BIAB drummer with Logic Drummer.
That worked ok. If BIAB had the ability to mix drums I would prefer that.

Is it pretty easy to take something like ezdrummer (for example) to gen up a drum part, then drop it in on a bunch of BIAB real tracks and come up with something that sounds like a band?

For example How much experimenting is required to get an ez drummer funk groove to lay in over some biab real tracks (bass, keys, etc) created in a biab funk style.

Will it really be that much better than and all BIAB version with real tracks and its styles.

Is there a reason to start with one voice (drums, bass, keys) over the other.

I used toontrack ezdrummer above merely as an example. I know there are other players in this game. I don't own any of this stuff but black friday is around the corner and I have a little spending money.

Hope this makes some sense.

Sounds like you have already taken your first steps - you've moved BIAB tracks into your DAW. That will open up the world of music making not possible in BIAB alone.

Regarding drums, ya, BIAB RDs are wonderful for being quick and simple, but when you want to take your drums beyond what is possible in BIAB you need to move on to other tools. I use both EZDrummer2 and Jamstix. I actually prefer Jamstix but both tools have their pros and cons.

But here is the real leap you will have to eventually consider (which is more than baby steps) - letting go of the RTs and embracing what can only be done in MIDI. Only when I did this did the barriers drop and the real musical freedom opened up. Only you can determine if this is your path. When this happens everything is replaceable.

Good Luck.
Dan

I agree. It's fairly simple to get MIDI drums out of BIAB (especially with the DAW plugin), then you can drop it into a nice drum plugin, tweak drum hits, program in some articulation...

I've briefly worked with Logic's drummer and checked out some of the aforementioned products but I always return to RealDrums. Simply because they are, well, real and real easy to use smile Using Logic Pro's groove track it's very easy to double different parts of the kit for separate processing. Each RD has an audio file that at the end contains a hit of all the kit components. I take, for example, the snare hit, load it in Logic and the groove function will perfectly align it with the RD's snare. This is after I copy it across the track on the correct beat which takes about five minutes. Since the RD's are real and not perfect the groove track will then match the RD.

I also cut and paste different fills through out our songs from multiple generations of the RD or occasionally a different RD. I'm an old bluegrass player who played for decades but never with a drummer so I can claim no expertise with drums but the above seems to work for us. Our blues and Americana productions don't really require complex drum patterns so we are quite satisfied with RD's.

And Waves CLA Drums offers the final polish to our efforts.

As always YMMV.

Bud

PS We've been fortunate to have a couple dozen tracks licensed to some big companies and all tracks used RD's and nobody complained smile

Just so those reading here know, BIAB 2021 (released yesterday) now has notation for ALL RealDrums. So you can use that MIDI to drive other drum synths, no matter what drums you choose in BIAB.

And it will be available for Macs in late spring.

Noted since the OP is apparently a Mac user.

OK, this begs the question. How was the drum notation constructed? Midi Drums? Does it have velocity data included?

Dan, you can try it already. Some RealDrums already had notation.
