Something a little darker than usual from me - a bit of an "experiment", if you will. Thanks for listening and for any and all comments!

I USED TO WRITE LOVE SONGS

I used to write love songs
I thought they mattered so
I used to write love songs ...
They matter to me no more.

I used to write love songs
I used to care about you
I used to write love songs
But you're no longer true.

I used to write love songs
For the one I trusted to kiss
I used to write love songs
For the one that's brought me to this.

I used to write love songs
For Him that is up in the sky ...
I used to write love songs ...
It seems I was writing to a lie.

I used to write love songs
For those that were closest to me
I used to write love songs
For those that deserved not to be.

I used to write love songs
For th' love that I was longing for ...
I used to write love songs
E'en as it walked out the door.

***

I used to write love songs
Because I believed in YOU so ...
I used to write love songs ...
Please tell me if all this was but a show ...

... before I'm no more.

Great lyric...one long repeated chorus but that's perfect for the narrative.
Musically I think this'd work even better with a more aggressive industrial arrangement.
As it plays the progression and arrangement are fine but they don't amplify the narrative.
Seriously, TENDRKA or one of the DOOM styles would be perfect.

I love your work, James. Really well-crafted songs. Although you speak them (very well, I should add), I always find the melody and sing them with you. Much fun. Thanks!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Very cool vibe James!! A good, but quite sad, lyric. Sax solo worked very well! Take care. Greg

Thanks Ray, Marty and Greg - really and truly appreciated that you took the time to listen! I'm genuinely humbled by your words.

Ray: I will check the styles you mention ... after Monday :-) . I've also re-mixed some of my older stuff, taking your advice ... so will most likely publish it all on here next week, haha - just so that you can (hopefully!!! haha) hear the difference!

Stay safe, everyone :-)

James,

A very interesting write. And well done.

Your vocal is done well. Even throughout.

The sax was a nice addition.

Hello James,

I think we've become already zsed to your versatility, but this one is, again, something very< special: A recitation over a 12-8 slow blues track - what an amazing idea. Works very well! Great write, nice sax solo.

Take care,

Stefan

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
