Hi all

I'm finding that, sometimes, the endings generated for certain RealStyles will not work, usually because one instrument ends before the others (typically 2 bars compared to 4) or it won't end at all but will continue going and then end abruptly at the end of the 4-bar ending.

An example is the _TARANTL.STY -- I've been trying to generate a cohesive ending for this for a while, but the drums always stop after 2 bars and the other instrumentss do a 4-bar ending. Here's a link to an audio sample:

Is this simply a limitation of the way in which the RealTracks were recorded (and so an inherent problem with the RealStyle), or is there something wrong with my BIAB?

Thanks!

Mike

(currently using BIAB 2020 for Windows 10, if that helps)

I struggle too to get the endings right and I'm sure its my lack of dedication in messing about with the tick boxes. Lol.
My personal workround is to put C (or whatever chord it is). in next to end bar and C... in your last one. Then extend number of bars by a few so the C... can decay naturally. Of course you will have to trim off the BB ending when it does finally occur.
Worth a try?

Another method is to extend the end of the song beyond where you want it to end and then apply a gradual fade-out over the extended bars. Band-in-a-Box has multiple ways to automatically apply a professional sounding fade-out. You can either use Songs Settings or F5 Bar Settings. My personal preference is to use the fade-out setting in Song Settings.

Select the Song Settings button (1) to open the Song Setting window. Uncheck the Generate a 2 bar ending for this song (2). Select the Fade button ( still 2) to automatically enter the number 6 for a gradual 6 bar fade-out (still 2) or enter the number you desire in the Fade-out ending # bars = text box (still 2). I prefer a 4 bar fade-out.

Alternate you can use F5 Bar Settings. The normal way to access F5 Bar Settings is to press F5 on your computer keyboard while the main Chord Sheet window is in focus. You can also access the F5 Bar Settings window in the Song Settings window by selecting the Bar Settings button (3a).

One of the selections for All Instrument Volume Changes (3) is Fade Per Bar. When you Select Fade Per Bar a text box appears. You enter a number between 1 - 100 for the percentage of volume fade from normal for that bar. Then you advance to the next bar and repeat. This fade-out is more abrupt because there are distinct volume steps at the beginning of each bar.

Thanks both very much for these work-around ideas smile They'll certainly come in handy I'm sure.

However, in this particular case I very much need a RealTrack "ending" so I'd really like to know whether I'm doing something wrong or whether it's a limit with this particular RealStyle?

If it's the latter then at least I'll know to just cut my losses and try to work with a different RealStyle.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
