Have A Christmas Party

This two and a half minute excursion into rockabilly takes “the current situation” into account lyrically. We are appreciative of your time to listen and comments are most welcome. Have a great holiday and be safe!

No reverb was added to the tracks including the vocal but vintage plate reverb and slap back delay are on the master bus to help with the 50’s rockabilly vibe. Although Bud played bass lack of finger calluses prevented a good slap sound (the "chicka") so Janice provided that on the cajon. Janice and Bud aka Chicka and Boom.

This is a complete remake (all new tracks) of a tune we posted several years ago. Lyrics on SC.

Janice: Vocal/cajon/arrangement/melody
Bud: Upright bass/arrangement/lyrics/tech stuff
Peter: Solo guitar

Vocal: Rodes NT1 > Scarlett 212 > Nectar 3
Bass: Dusty Old Kay > Rodes NT1 > Scarlett > Waves Bass Rider > Neutron 2
RealDrums: BoomchickaEv16 > Waves CLA Drums
Snare: Doubled from above > Neutron 3
Cajon: Neutron 3
Piano: MIDI SuperTrack 2470 Acoustic, Rhythm RockabillyBoomChickaKevin Ev 100 > Logic Pro X Grand Steinway
Rhythm Guitar: RT 2423 Electric, Rhythm RockabillyBoomChickaBrent Ev 100

Mixed and mastered in Logic Pro X >
Logic EQ > Logic Space Designer > Waves J37 > Ozone Maximizer > Ozone Tonal Balance > Logic Loudness meter

Should be illegal for three people to have so much talent... but I'm delighted it's not! If there was a little crowd noise I'd swear I was in one of the St. Louis local venues around 1956.

Besides being terrific musicians/vocalists, you folks are serious entertainers. Love the song and Janice's voice is o perfect for it. Peter knows his way around those strings and 20 some-odd frets. And who turns knobs better than Bud?

You guys put a big smile on my face ... thanks. Wishing all of you a fabulous Christmas and a fantastic 2021. Take care and be safe.

Alan

YES!!! Superb.

I knew Janice's lyrical side up to now, but here she is in virtuoso mode ... fabulous. Superb singing.

The rest - well, you're all pros, gentlemen, and boy it shows once more. Guitar playing, RealTrack selection, production ... the usual high standard we've come to expect from you and from which you never deviate.

Dare I say that I think this is one of your best? :-)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!!!

No better way to get into the spirit of the season than by jumping on the BIAB User Showcase and listening to all the choice tunes. This one had me moving around pretty good with its rockabilly rhythm. Terrific job, folks. Yep, many are celebrating only in ones or twos this year. I have a huge family that loves to get together but I won't be seeing any of them this year. So it's nice to have the Showcase family for some festive music. Thanks again, folks!

What a fun song! Of course, everything was what it needed to be. The guitar solo was way cool smile And Janice's little vocal ad libs so added to the realism. Bass player was solid. It just bounced right a long in a jolly way.
Good spirit!

I did NOT see that ending coming. What a great way to end a song. Leave it to you to come up with that. I really like it.

Mixing and production had exactly what I was hoping for. This club is becoming a favorite stop for me! smile

So in closing, if you could pull the synths back a bit, and maybe take off the auto-tune entirely, you may have something here! wink This is just one of those great REAL sounding songs. Love it.

Thanks for the fun and merriment! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all as well. smile

Hello Janice,Bud and Peter,

It is a very pleasant composition to celebrate a Merry Christmas. In Europe, this year, it will be discreet because we are limited in the number of participants for this family's party. But thank you very much for this melody that warms our hearts.

Kindly regards

Oh yeah, I do love a little rockabilly and Janice, you sing it so well. The usual great production and playing from Bud (or should I say Boom) and a lovely little flourish from Peter to sign it off. Very best wishes to you all at the close of this extraordinary year.
Regards,
Leon

In this period of heavy energy on the planet this song is such a bowl of fresh air! Fun, light, uplifting, great vocals and arrangement. I loved the ending on the guitar! Great job!

Thanks! Glad you liked the vocals ... that style isn’t heard much nowadays. Perhaps the Stray Cats were the last.

This song gave me a wonderful early Buddy Holly vibe – partly because Buddy & Bob did a lot of this sort of thing and Janice has included some VERY cool hiccough/percussive vocal parts.
I think you did the bass really well.
I enjoyed the entire package.
WELL DONE – it’s a cracker of a song.

Cheers

I read your description about just putting the reverb and slap on the master before I listened, man, what a great sound! You have some serious chops behind the board, Bud!

Nice to hear you on the bass again too.

Love the little opening guitar part from Peter, cool solo too.

And Janice was obviously having fun with this one smile Fabulous!

Great stuff you three, very much enjoyed.

Thanks a LOT. Reviews like this offer so much encouragement -- especially when we are venturing out. It was nice of you to note her vocal dancing and my bass. Yeah we'll remix it w/o the synths but I tried auto-tune on Janice and it crashed after she did her first "singing around the note." smile

Very cool live feel to this tune. I got a Buddy Holly vibe as well. Super vocal and backtrack. Peters guitar was excellent. Box had the treble pinned on the amp and guitar. Perfect for the song. Super production Bud.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
