Second day using BIB 2020 for Win. Styles all sound pretty rinky dink. I ran the update, got a file, installed it. Styles sound better with more of them. Yellow box suggests I rebuild to add styles. I do fast rebuild... the new styles dissapear! Done it twice!! Any help is appreciated -Bob

Welcome to the neighborhood.
If you have at any time updated to a later version of BiaB from an earlier version, try selecting 'Run Cleanup Routine' from the Help > Utilities menu, then try the Rebuild in the Styles list. Hopefully this might resolve.

Tried it and no change. Thanks for info though. FYI - this is a new, fresh install of BIAB win 2020. Just double clicked the install files "bandinabox_realband_2020_pro and then hiq_instruments_sforzando and accepted all the default locations for files. Haven't changed any options. When I choose an RT style I get all kinds of messages in the yellow boxes ... style not found, instrument(s) not found etc. And basically the style doesn't play. This may be part of the whole problem?

MIDI styles are included in the main Band-in-a-Box installation. These are styles that use all MIDI instruments. RealStyles are included in separate real* installers, along with the RealTracks instruments. These are styles that start with an underscore character in the StylePicker, and contain all RealTracks with no MIDI.
The Band-in-a-Box program is aware of all styles available (from PG Music), and so you can choose to show N/A (not available) styles by selecting the appropriate options from the 'Other' dropdown menu. A style can be N/A (missing completely, which is completely normal unless you have all styles ever made; they are hidden by default ), or it can be "N/A RT" which means that the (.STY) style exists by one or more RealTracks do not. This could be because you haven't installed them, or they aren't part of the package you have.

Andrew thanks for your reply. I have the option set to show styles that are found. I filter Celtic 4/4 and choose _CLTREEL R, etc. I play the demo and it sounds fine. I click OK and all get is the Bodhran. This happens with numerous style choices. My install was done by choosing all the default locations. The folders are all on my C: drive. I have checked in my preferences and the RealDrums and RealTracks locations are set correctly. I have not messed with any settings. What am I doing wrong?

Yes, I would expect you to have this RealTracks instrument, which _CLTREEL uses. Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm CelticReel Ev16 110
Can you take a look in your \bb\RealTracks folder, and see if you have a subfolder there with that name, with 44 files in it?

I'm telling you these styles are there then I do a rebuild and they're gone. I just open a backing track where I applied the same style a week ago. Now all I get is drums and bass. No guitar. The guitar was working a week ago with this backing track.

In the Style Picker, click on the Rebuild button at the bottom and do a Fast rebuild. When that's done, click on the Clear button at the top of the window. Now in the upper left below the Category button it should tell you how many styles are in the list - what is the number?
Also, can you tell us what packages you have? You have 2021 Pro, but have you had any versions before that, or any add-ons?

Thanks, I've done a fast rebuild several times before but never followed by the clear. That brought the guitar back for new tracks and saved tracks. So, that helped a lot and fixed that style. Shows I have 1090 styles. I downloaded files from the web site at time of purchase bandinabox_realband_2020_pro and hiq_instruments_sforzando. That was my original install. I also checked for updates after this install an downloaded and installed them ... don't know the version. Just followed the prompts. When I received my flash drive just clicked on BB2021_setup and let it do its thing. I probably checked for updates after this but I can't remember if there were any... I don't think so. I haven't done anything else because I want to get what have working well before I add new styles or any other updates.

1090 styles sounds about right for a 2021 Pro version, so it looks like everything's running normally now. Please let us know if you have further difficulty.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
