Hi

There are a number of issues with function and stability in BB20/811, likely caused by time constraints during development/fixes and required test/verification.

After some edits of time markers and cut/copy/paste between audio/utility tracks
- no sync with bar markers between audio/utility tracks, e.g. a utility track gets an offset that varies
- changing bars can cause program error "Out of Bounds"
- scrolling stops working

It's not possible to do any major work at this point as the result is totally unpredictable.

Cheers
Thomas

The option on Audio and Utility tracks "Conform to Playback Tempo" could possibly resolve the freelancing bar markers.
Need more testing to see if predictability improves ...

The other two problems remains.

Had a couple of instances after editing and saving a BB20-track with audio to a new name, then the original audio is lost leaving only the original .SGU (and the new .SGU and its .wav).

Hi Thomas, I mentioned this is a separate thread: Updates are being rolled out regularly as identified issues are being resolved. 813 has now been released, and no doubt further updates will become available. If you can provide the exact workflow steps to reproduce your issue, I'll report directly to the developers.

Additionally

Equalize tempo just gets stuck at 0% if you have audio as well on a utility track.
Restart program ...

So what am I trying to do:

as my BB21 #1 wish was, as posted in the wish forum, to equalize more than a single tempo for the whole audio, i.e. stretching audio on selected regions to separate tempos.
Something you would like to do if you have recorded audio without a click track and with sections with significantly different tempos.

It would be very convenient to this within one go in BB and I was trying to see what the current possibilities were.
There are ways around running the audio file in e.g. two sessions with different equalization/stretching and then cut/paste into a new audio file. Time consuming if you have a lot of songs that needs some trimming.

I have similar problems with BIAB 2021 - the Audio Chord feature and audio tracks.

I have many songs where I have used the audio chord wizard (in BIAB 2020 and earlier) to figure out the chords and play the audio along with the BIAB chords.

Most all the imported audio were manually marked with bar markers to sync the audio with the chords.

Everything was fine until I upgraded to BIAB 2021 when all the songs with audio were now out of sync and unplayable.

I brought up the ACW and, as expected, none of the bar markers were where they should be - they had been relocated to a constant tempo. I attempted to fix them to no avail.

After some investigation I found that in the mixer window on the Audio Track, right clicking will bring up a track settings menu. One of the options is "Conform to Playback tempo" which is always set when opening a tune. This right click option in the mixer was not in BIAB 2020.

I suppose that BIAB would work as expected if every time I opened an affected tune, I changed this option, but I shouldn't have to do this. BIAB should save this selection either with a global option, or with an individual saved song.

Also, in the Audio Chord Wizard screen there is a button to "Match audio tempo" which is stuck on.

This defeats the purpose of manually placing bar markers on the audio track, and makes it impossible to sync the chords to the audio. It also messes up previously created songs, which required some time to create.

Because I have found BIAB 2021 unusable for my purposes, I have reverted back to BIAB 2020 and things are back to normal. I only want my old stuff to work in BIAB 2021.

Not being a BIAB expert, I may be doing something wrong and have not found a solution to this dilemma.

I informed PG music of this problem, and have not received an acknowledgement or, better yet, a fix.

I welcome the opportunity to be educated. Thanks for any suggestions.

Apparently built #814 corrected my problem. The "Conform to Playback Tempo" selection is now turned off - which is fine with me. But, I can't find out how to control it. Maybe someone else knows.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
