Hello all,

I am not a frequent user of Realband yet I installed the here announced new version.
having started the app I went straight to play from the Jukebox and the app crashes/quits without an error protocol.
Before it show a yellow post-it, that it tried to open some midi file from an non existing folder (where does that come from?). This will probably be the reason for realband to close without further ado.
I tried to find the setting, where this file path is stored, but did not find it.

this behaviour is very poor. Realizing there is some sort of mismatch and closing without asking the user. After that I have to confirm all settings and pathes of Realband again in boot up procedure.
:-(

Unhappy apps don´t behave....

have a good year 2021!

Cheeers
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

you say you don't use RB often, so perhaps a few questions are in order .

1) Have you used the jukebox feature successfully in a previous version?

2) jukebox typically expects you to create a folder of songs that will be played in order, much like the records in a jukebox. In order to test whether your problem originates with RealBand or with the music file, create a directory and put a few MP3s in it. They'll load quickly and help us see if RB works.

3)from RB open the Jukebox, but don't try to play it yet

4) click [ADD FOLDER TO PLAY LIST]

5) navigate to the folder you created with MP3s in it. Select it.

6) the play list in Jukebox should now display the list of files in that directory.

7) press [START] the first song in the list should load and start playing.

8) press [>] and the next song in the list should load and start playing.

9) now that we know that RB/Jukebox works, replace the MP3s in the directory with your own SEQ or other media files. At this point, the only thing that should make jukebox fail is if the sequence itself contains a path to a file that has been moved. If that's the case, you need to fix the sequence.

Hello Pat,

thx for replying. Here my answers.

1) no, I used more the Biab Jukebox but wanted to try it in Realband now.

2) I have no opportunity to set a folder from which the songs shall be drawn.
For some reason Realband knows of an old, not existing folder, which is enough to quit without further ado. Not letting me tryout any other thing. At restart it suggest to take factory defaults to which I agree. I can not change anything significant to avoid this behaviour :-(

3) open jukebox, RB program disappears...
There is no such thing as starting jukebox without playing something - at least that´s how it looks to me.

4) I don´t get there where you describe.

5) like point 4)

6, 7, 8, 9) like point 4) I don´t get there

I looked in the Windows registry to find a place, where realband might fetch this "old" information from without success though.

I also installed the news build 3 for RB 2021. No change.

Any more ideas?

have a good new year 2021 all!

Thanks Pat

That doesn't happen here. There might be a config file that tells jukebox where to look for its directory of songs. It appears to default to the RealBand root folder. Look for a file in the Realband folder named $SessionJUK, looks like its the file that contains a location of your folder containing songs for the jukebox.

0) if you find this file, delete it and restart RB. If we're lucky that might fix the problem.

1) if you don't find one, create a text file by that name and copy paste this text into it:

PTJUK100C:\RealBand\jukebox songs\song1.mp3;C:\RealBand\jukebox songs\song2.mp3

2) replace "song1" and "song2" with the name of actual songs

3) create a folder named C:\RealBand\jukebox songs

4) put the songs in this folder named exactly as shown in the $SessionJUK file

hopefully when you start RB next time, it will see the file and stop being redirected somewhere else.
If this doesn't work, then somebody above my pay grade will have to weigh in.

Hey Pat,

deleting the $SessionJUK file did the trick. I was able to pick new folders and it worked then.
Thanks a lot!!!

Cheers
Stefan

I use RealBand to create songs for live performances, then I have another copy of Realband on a laptop for live or streamed online performances. At first I used Jukebox to serve up the next song, but overtime I switched to a 3 pedal USB device that can be programmed to send keystrokes to the computer. I programmed the pedals to send the following keystrokes:

[space] which starts or stops playing whatever song is loaded
[ctrl-P]could also be used to play the current song from the beginning

[shift-F8] which loads the next song in the folder

[F4] which saves the song if I make any changes

I put the lyrics and chords on the COMMENTS window, because I can easily copy/paste an entire song to this window when creating my songs, and you can choose whether to have the comments page load automatically with the song.

I put the chords in line with the lyrics like this:
Quote:
(Gmaj7) these are lyrics (Cmaj7) these are more lyrics

because if you put the chords above the lyrics, as is common in many chord sheets, changing the font will mess up your chord positions.
Putting them inline with the lyrics is failproof.
Quote:
doing this makes the chord sheets much harder to maintain:
Gmaj7_____________Cmaj7
These are lyrics______These are more lyrics

here's a link to the USB pedal I use:
USB FOOTSWITCH

Jukebox also works with keystrokes to stop , start and play next song, and you can use the same footswitch with Jukebox. SOmehow I ended up using only RB, and that works too, if you only need a few controls.

in order to arrange my play list so shift F8 calls up the song I want next, I rename my songs with numbers in the order I want to play them. For example:

01_song one.seq
02_song two.seq
03_ song three.seq

shift F8 grabs songs in alphanumeric order, with numbers being selected first.

Hope this is useful

That was very helpful Pat. Thanks a lot.

I am trying to get sorted with my ambitions to make music and building a repertoire. Unluckily I tried since around 30 years to get more productive, but due to verious reasons, lastly work, I made not to much progress. Now I make an effort to get me nearer to my musical goals.

Would you be able to show me your setup one day via skype?

Thanks for all!

Cheers Stefan

Hello Pat,

is there a way to have direct contact (some sort of messaging) via this forum? As not to chat around different topics in one thread?
Than I probably would prefer that for a more verbose exchange of ideas, usages, workarounds etc....

Cheers Stefan

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
