As title says, I am completely losing my mind in BIAB.
I want to import a MIDI melody into the MELODY Slot in the program. I am in an MGU file and importing a midi track. The menu pops up asking about the destination and everything. I set everything there correctly. I click OK and nothing happens. Track is not "frozen."
Jeez, should be simpler than this.
Thanks
Michael

Make sure that in the MIDI File Import dialog, you have chosen Melody as your destination track -- perhaps it is importing it to a Utility track and that's why your Melody track remains empty.
Otherwise do you want to attach a screenshot of your settings and/or the MIDI file in question for us to try?
Yes I chose Melody in the destination. The name changes to "guitar" for some bizarre reason. I get the ever-present silence when playing back. Screenshot and SEQ is attached.

I can duplicate the problem GoofyFoot is experiencing. If I import to the Melody track, although I can see the notation in the notation viewer, no sound is produced.

Thanks for the sample file. When you import this MIDI file, set the destination of track 3 to the Melody track:
Actually the MIDI file appears to only have two tracks, I am not sure why BB is showing three tracks. In any case, you can see the track "3" has the MIDI data on it, because it has the MIDI channel 1 selected.
The melody track name change to Guitar, since BB is auto-generating track titles, and the MIDI file track is set to patch 28 (Jazz Electric Guitar) If you don't like this behavior, you can disabled it in Prefs:
It looks from your screenshot like it did work, since I can see that the Melody track (guitar2) is set to MIDI patch 28, which is exactly what mine looked like. Check the track in the notation window - you should see it there. Is it playing, but silently?
Yes I can see the track. It does not appear to be playing though. You don’t see the meter jumping up and down. The music just scrolls through as though it were there but it doesn’t play.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
