I started this song in January of last year & the actual song was completed about three weeks ago and no there's A VIDEO to help the medicinal smelling tune go down.
In March Misha/Rustyspoon did a melody and vocal take for me but wasn't keen on being THE voice in the song. A couple of vocalists later it has a voice that's happy to be there.
BIAB provides:
Piano
&
Drums
matched with Vantage Bass, Harley Benton 12 String & Squire Mustang.
Tracked and mixed in REAPER
Mastered, as usual, by Fran Ashcroft of Happy Beat Studio.

Good song, Ray, your vocalist did a fine job for you as did the guitarist. Solid job on the bass of course wink

Nice work on the video as per usual, what program are you using for that?

Good job Ray.
In nitpicking mode I would suggest your vocalist tone seems lost and he could be brought forward a little or the rhythm guitar brought back.

Ha!
Ray wow, completely different feel! Bob done a spotless job on this. Very confident! Mix / mastering is VERY good. "medicinal smelling tune" LOL! It is always interesting to see people in action, video helps. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

P.S. Side note... I think vocals are a bit too "clean" for the genre. Could use some mojo / tube goodness, to make it slightly fuzzy.

ray,

Sounds good to me. A good balance. Your bass sounds great.
Guitars panned well and balanced.
Vocal sits perfectly in the mix.
Nice solo.

Enjoyed.

Loved it!
Found the video distracting so just listened to the music - EXCELLENT!
AS one who has 'budget' guitars in his arsenal, its good to hear H-B and Squier sounding great in the mix.

I'm a sucker for a good video, I like this one!

Song is good, vocals good, band good.

Have to agree with the comment about the vocals hiding behind the guitars though.

Ray ...

Really cool song. It's my favorite of yours so far. Your vocalist did a real nice job for you. The bass is spot on ... as is everything else in the song. Liked the video, too! It reminded me of my days back in the late 50s and 60s. Nice!

Take care. Wishing you well ...

Thank you Sir.
I use a cheapie - Wondershare Video Editor. It'd horrify proper vid people but it's pretty cool for my purposes.

Vic

Vic,
Thank you.
The song has already been professionally mastered so I won't be tweaking it.
The vocal level is as desired by the singer and the left rhythm guitar is a little louder than the right one as the lead licks happen on the right.
I'll keep the suggestions in mind for the next song.

I was VERY happy with your version - except for the lead guitar.
Yes, Bob's lead work on this really lifts it.
I've used saturation and distortion on Tony's voice before - to good effect - he sang on Algorithmic Reality that featured you & Katya, but he'd only just recovered from a vocal chord injury and was keen to do a clean performance that demonstrated to himself that he'd recovered. I didn't have the heart to scuzz it up on him after that.

Thanks Ian,
I'm just a budget gear sort of person.
The only non budget thing in my set up is a Fender acoustic 12 string and that wasn't MIA so probably rates as budget too.
Glad you liked it.
Oh, the HB 12 is FAB.
I generally prefer music with no vid but I've noted that a vid gets more listens so have bowed to pragmatics.

Ray, the write, vocals, bass, your guitar, his guitar and that RD all sound superb. This is a classic example of a great mix and the
soundstage that it should present.

We ALWAYS like your vids and this is no exception.

This was indeed well worth the wait. And a heckuva return to vocals for Tony.

Great listen/watch!

Ray,
I think the clean vocal processing suits the pop side of this song... which has a good melody ( the vocalist delivers... and I would have liked to hear Misha sing, of course!)
A fine production in all respects.

Hi Ray,Bob & Anthony,

all the good things have been said - I can only agree on everything: a terrific song, the vocalist did a good job, fine hob on the guitar. And the video is proof that it doesn't take the big toolbox to put a really interestimg and nice one together.

Good job, gentlemen!

All the best,

Janice & Bud,
yes, Tony was rather nervous about putting this song into a recorder...he'd embarked on a cover song per letter of the alphabet journey last year and had to put that on hold and this track was the first time he raised his voice in song for many months.
Any slight uncertainty he may have felt seems to have enhanced his interpretation of the words.
THANK YOU for you ever supportive commentary.

Like this one a lot. Real nice vibe to it . . . an early R.E.M. feel to it musically. The vocal has a nice tone that sits well in the mix. Good tune right here—enjoyed it!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
