First thing I'd check is the Flash message log, see image below.
Posting it here *may* help.

What are you doing when it crashes? Recording, generating, .. (?) The more detail the better.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I was doing various things, sometimes recording, sometime just pressed play. Another time putting points on the green line to vary the volume of a track

Here is the log:

First line of your log shows you are rending to video (?)
was this intended?

"- Your video is finished rendering! Click on [Show Video File] to see the file in Windows Explorer. [RealBand 2021.1.0 (64-bit), 14/01/2021 23:22:23]"

FWIW it appears you are on build one (from the message 2021.1.0) .. have you tried updating it?

Also -
Saving a song during playback would surely cause an issue (also found in your log file)
"
- Can't save a song with audio during playback! [RealBand 2021.1.0 (64-bit), 14/01/2021 23:19:40]
- Can't save a song with audio during playback! [RealBand 2021.1.0 (64-bit), 14/01/2021 23:14:53]"

.. and
"- Can't delete during playback [RealBand 2021.1.0 (64-bit), 10/01/2021 21:30:37]"

Your workflow may need some adjustment. The above hard write processes cannot occur while the song is playing. It can't write to the file while it is still playing it.

Yes, I learnt those lessons but when it crashed generally I wasn't doing those things. I also found found that after recording, when I clicked on 'keep take' it didn't. I am a newbie though. :-)

Yes, I did get through what I was doing and rendered a video

stonker.
if your new to realband , several aspects are important.
1. read all faq's, manuals, and vids on the pg site here.
have you done so ?
2. in order for people to help you , its important to post as many details as possible on your RB settings and sound devices.
post a pic of RB audio preferences/settings and win recording/playback settings.
(please dont say on board sound. if you ARE useing on board sound i recommend you get a proper asio sound interface. see a thread in this RB forum on working asio sound devices people are useing.)
where people often trip up is not setting up properly for recording work .
3.please explain in detail what your trying to do.

the above will help people to help you.

best.
muso.

ps rharv. the number of people you help each year/your expertise should be rewarded by pg with free upgrades
forever. seriously. kudos to you.

rharv.
you highly deserve it.
yes your right. whenever ive dealt with anyone at pg on the odd occasion over the years, nice people.
btw so far in my testing 2020 32 bit realband seems to work well with my new audient evo.
more to test out tho/early days. i looked at the nice multi input focusrite interfaces on the higher end, but , due to pace of tech change, i thought i would give cheap evo a chance. so far so good. if it fails i can just use the mic pre's.
no fuss , no muss. nice mic pre's. what i wasnt aware of , which kinda blows me away, and why they would hide it in the manual, is, internal evo dsp rtl seems to be 0.59ms at 44.1.
at 96khz, 0.28 ms. and quoting daw playback latency as low as 2.5ms at 44.1. and 2ms at 96khz.
in reaper i'm getting 4/5ms latency overall , and i could get lower. more testing to do tho'.
i guess it depends how powerfull a pc one has.
i'm correct in thinking , am i not , that higher the cpu ghz the lower the rtl/latency in daw ?

ive also become interested in usb multi mic pre audio mixers. might get one yet.
gotta check more , but apparently soundcraft mixers (eg notepad good pre's i hear) have low RTL.
gonna check them out more. also there are allen n heath zed series. good pre's apparently.

ive just decided for 2021 to keep my gear lust/spending in check, as i feel we are going to see some very good new recording products at cheap prices soon.
best.
cheapy muso. lol.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
