I'm relatively new to Band in a Box, but have been using it to write backing tracks for about 8 or so songs.

I've input all the chords for a song into the chordsheet which was complex and took ages. I then have assigned certain instruments certain styles etc. I do not want to repeat these processes by starting again.

The 1st 12 bar section of the song is an intro, but for some reason there is a begin repeat mark on the 2nd bar.
Then there is the main body of the song. The beginning of the chorus is set to the first bar of this section. It is 24 bars, with a 1st ending and a second ending.
On the last bar of the 2nd ending there is a 'go to tag ending', which goes to an 8 bar coda.

When the song plays, on the repeats and when a new 'chorus' starts, it goes back to the 2nd bar where the repeat is marked, despite the 13th bar- the beginning of the actual head- is set as the bar beginning the chorus.

How do I stop this happening?! I want to totally remove the repeat. There are no instructions on how to delete repeats in the tutorial on repeats. If I delete a bar, the repeats move to the next bar.

This is incredibly frustrating.
Please help.

Why not take a break, and enter a few songs without using the repeats and endings. Just enter them as a single form. Then you won't be posting that entering a chord chart took hours, since it usually takes 5 minutes.

You can always add the repeats and endings after the fact. They are only needed for leadsheet printout.

This tutorial gives no information on how to delete repeats, only how to put them in.

I'm using BIAB as an accompaniment program, so repeats are actually needed in the chordsheet.
I've put in about 7 songs into BIAB and am now familiar with how it works and stuff.
This piece is by Wayne Shorter, so the chord sequence is quite involved with chords on the 4th beat etc, which is why it took me a while. This was the first piece that I tried that with- you have to start somewhere!
Also, I did follow the advice in the tutorial; I put the chords in without repeats and then added the repeats after, because I need to use this to practice. This is where I mucked up, but now there is no way to sort it out because these repeats cannot be deleted- when I delete the bars they are in they move.

Hi 3o,

Did you try revisiting the Repeats window and using the "Delete All" button there?

Rightclick on the bar and select "Repeats/Codas/1st & 2nd Endings.

In the window that opens, look just above the "Help" button for the Delete All button.

Fab! Thanks very much Mac!
That's just what I was looking for, but I just skimmed over that dialog box too quickly- my fault entirely.
Thanks for all your help.

If you look at the right side of the song title window you can click there and change when and where the repeats begin and end etc. I

I've never had the problem so can't advise but a quick and immediate solution is to unfold the song so it starts at bar 1 and then just plays all the way through as one long chord sheet.

go to edit - song form - unfold

it may leave you with the same repeats but then you can delete the bars you don't want. someone may have a more elegant solution as to what's wrong with the repeats etc but this will at least get you what you want.

make a copy of the file so you don't lose anything before you start.

RealBAnd might be easier to use as it will automatically unfold the song if you open the BIAB file

wow just seen what an old thread this is!

Did Delete all actually work for you? In contrast to my earlier post I still have not managed to delete any 1st/2nd endings or repeats...

1st/2nd endings are deleted through the 1st/2nd ending dialogue - the same as used to create them.
In the dialogue, select edit list (bottom left corner.
Each instruction set is highlighted. You can have multiple instruction sets (eg repeats inside repeats, coda)
Select the one you want and click delete

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
