A while ago I upgraded to BIAB 2019 from BIAB 2017. In 2017 I got the external hard drive and that worked like a charm. However, when I upgraded to 2019 it was download-only, and this is where my troubles begin.

I have followed the instructions that typically solve this "real tracks not found" problem. My real tracks are located in /applications/band-in-a-box/realtracks/. At least I think they are...

When I click into the actual realtracks folders, some folders are full of .m4a and .bt0 files. There is one of each of these files types for every realtrack. Other folders within realtracks appear empty, which is very suspicious. If I double click on the .m4a files, they open in apple music, which is also odd.

When I'm in BIAB and trying to search for realtrack styles, I can demo any realtrack I want. I can also find those files under the realtracksdemo folder and they have the BIAB icon next to them, unlike the actual realtracks, which have those m4a and bt0 file extensions. When I select "ok" after I;ve heard a demo I like, the yellow box pops up saying it cant find the realtrack/ the realdrums or some combination of errors. Basically it cannot find the files, even though I think I have them in the right location.

Can someone PLEASE help me figure out what's going on? This is frustrating beyond belief.

Hello,

Quote:

Some folders will only have a text file in them, which points to another folder. If that's what you're seeing, that is normal. If the folder is completely empty, perhaps it is a permissions problem..

That is normal, since they are just audio files playing with the default music player.

What is one specific example of an error message? You can find the most recent message at the top of the message log file (Help menu | Utilities | Show flash message log...}

Also, do you have the entire Band-in-a-Box folder on your internal hard drive, or do you have it on an external USB drive? Do you have the RealTracks folder in a 'custom' location outside your Band-in-a-Box folder?

To start with, I would make sure to download and install the latest patch. Even if you have the latest build already installed, you should install the patch, as it runs a script to fix any permissions problems there might be with the folder.

Hi Andrew,

Here are a few examples of the error messages:

- Cannot generate RealTracks, because this folder is not found /Applications/Band-in-a-Box/RealTracks/Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm JazzFastKenny Sw 190/, RT#2315. Check your [menu]-Windows-RealTracks Settings -RealTracks folder setting, and make sure that you have installed the needed RealTracks [26-1-21 19:31:31]

I get the same error for just about every realtrack I try to use. I have all of my content downloaded to the local hard drive on my computer. I have the Band-in-a-Box folder and all accompanying folders in /Applications, as instructed.

Any idea what might be going on here?

Hi,

Neither those RealTracks or Drums listed in those errors are in fact part of the Pro package. I think you need to press Rebuild in the StylePicker. It may be showing all available styles rather than just the ones you have...

Hi Andrew -

I think I see what happened here...so this purchase was only supposed to be an upgrade from my 2017 UltraPlus Pak that I bought 2 years prior. I was told at the time that since I owned the Ultra Plus I would only have to pay the Pro price for an upgrade and could still use the features of UltraPlus. Is this not the case? I still have the external hard drive for the UltraPlus 2017. Is there any way to merge what I have available from the UltraPlus with my 2019 Pro? Is there a different course of action you would recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, certainly.. one option is to install the Pro version right onto your 2017 drive. You would run the Band-in-a-Box Pro installer, and make sure to 'Choose destination' and select the USB drive.

Or, if you have a large internal drive on your Mac, you could copy your UltraPAK there and install the newer Pro version on top. One way to do this is:
1. Rename the existing Band-in-a-Box folder on your Mac HD. e.g. name it Band-in-a-Box_temp
2. Plug in the 2017 Ultra HD.
3. Copy the 'Band-in-a-Box' folder (about 100 GB) from the Applications folder on the Ultra HD, to the Applications folder on your Mac's HD. Since the 2017 drive would be USB 2 this part could take a couple hours.
4. Copy the contents of the Band-in-a-Box_temp folder to the Band-in-a-Box folder you just copied there, selecting the option to MERGE when asked.
(alternatively you could run the Band-in-a-Box Pro installation again).

Or, you could do the same thing but to another external USB drive if you have one.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
