When I did the 2021 update download back in December, the export as audio (WAV file) was doing very strange things. First of all, playback was great. But when I exported the song to a WAV file, BIAB added several (3 to 6) seconds of silence to the front end, then the instruments would seem to stumble in.
Please, has anyone else encountered this?
I couldn't find a fix for this in any of the build updates so far. I want to stay up to date on the updates and the real tracks, but I'm afraid to try it again. I talked with support and their only solution at that time was to have me uninstall 2021, refund my money, and reload 2020.
I have a working studio and I use BIAB daily. You can find our music here: Our Music
Every track here was made by me on BIAB.
I am new to Forums but not new to BIAB. I've been a user for more than 3 years and have made dozens if not hundreds of tracks for covers and original tunes with this wonderful tool.
Thank you for your help.

I'm not sure if this is the problem you were having, but there was a bug fixed in December with individual track renders being out of sync when there were tempo changes. Either way, you can make a backup of your 2020 version by copying the bb\bbw*.exe files. You could then reinstall 2021 and install the latest patch. If you have the same problem let us know. You can always revert back to the previous version by copying back the 2020 bbw* files.
So, you're suggesting I buy the update again and "try it out" to see if it works this time? I'm more than happy to spend the money again, but nothing you or anyone has said has given me any reassurance or even gotten close to the issue. No one else had this problem!? The issue wasn't with individual tracks, although I'm willing to hope this might be it... It was with stereo export to WAV file.
And, as Noel96 and Simon indicated, I'm as up to date as I can be in 2020.
I had a lengthy email exchange back in December with Julian, Ember, and Deryk. I sent copies of the wav files in question and never really felt heard. Simon, you were also in that thread when it came time for the refund.
The issue is further exacerbated by the fact that my studio depends upon my continuous creation of tracks. I can't afford the hours it will take me to try 2021 again if it doesn't solve the problem.
Please give me some hope!

i've never used that feature in BIAB as I always use RealBand. but tried it tonight for the first time using the latest build and it worked perfectly. tried with and without the drum lead in - both perfect. default setting was 0 secs delay at the beginning.
BIAB 2021 Build 818 works perfectly for me. audio menu............export as audio file......no problem..........stereo wav file produced. didn't try the one track per file setting or whatever its called. i just produced a stereo wav file
J can you send me your BIAB mgu file and I will use current 2021 to export to WAV and send you the new file. It has been a rough couple months with the 2021 launch, but I am not hearing any problems like this being reported recently. I tend to do all my exports via drag and drop in the BIAB VST and have no problems. But if I can help, glad to do it. Dan
If you want to reply to my email address, I will be so thankful to have you check on these files with the latest updates.

maybe you could re-buy the 2021 upgrade and install in a different folder and run both versions... I'm guessing you're going to want it anyway in the future.
I'm actually having the same issue. A long period of silence at the beginning of the wav. Other than that, the wav plays fine. No issues with timing of the instruments. I have delay at start set to zero. Running Build 818.
Thanks.
Cheers, Mike

Try setting the beginning and end silence to 2 seconds and see if that makes a difference. It could be that the programming is not reading zero correctly.
jeff. bear with me will you. instead of exporting to wav, does the same problem occur exporting to other formats LIKE mp3 ? plz run a test. ie in bb FILE>>SAVE SPECIAL , select mp3 etc.
BUT could you plz post the following pics of your settings. (large pics plz as i'm vision impaired.) 1. pic of bb chord view of the song prior to mix to wav. 2. pic of song settings for the above song. 3. your usb sound device has a control panel post a pic of its settings plz. 4. post a pic of your biab audio settings. from the audio prefs. 5. in windows playback and recording dialogs includeing advanced plz post pics of such , and advanced. 6. in windows plz right clik over the stereo wav file thats created , and what do its "properties" say ?? just trying to diagnose methodically. ps do you ever get stutters when your playing songs outside of bb, and in windows audio. ? best muso. ps MIKE. could you plz do same as above. and post back ?
I can't do any of that in 2021, because I uninstalled it. So none of that will help. It is an interesting point that the tracks I had issue with were created with 2020 (734) then I tried to export them using 2021 (809) which was the most recent update at that time. However, I hate to think that any SGU files created with earlier versions will not be playable in later upgrades...
Dan is helping me out for now. We will se what he discovers.
Thank you for replying!

It is still broken. The exported wav has several bars of silence at the beginning of the recording. I have confirmed this on build 821. Many may not notice this if they just take it immediately to their DAW and trim it. But it is there. However, the delays are not exactly as they were with his mp3 examples, actually a bit more delay seen now. Here is a quick picture of the renders in REaper. My newest is on the bottom. I spent a bit of time to see if I could figure out what could be done. But I know better than that. It would take a good while to mess with all the settings to find out which one is messing with it. Best to send this to PG.
Dan, I can confirm this. Has nothing to do with Audio settings or anything else. Tried everything. There is still this long period of silence before the music starts within the WAV. My workaround has been exactly what you set: trim the silence part.
So, yes PGMusic. This is a bug for sure!
Thanks.
Cheers, Mike

Thanks, that bug happens if 'allow lead-in bars' is unchecked in the count-in prefs, and 2bar lead-in is also unchecked in the Render dialog. You can workaround by checking the 'allow lead-in bars' (in Options | Prefs | count-in).

Well that sounds easy enough to confirm. But will take a little time. Its 5:30 am and I am up, but only because my sprained wrist and swollen toe are throbbing. I am waiting for the pain pill to kick in so I can go back to bed. I fell yesterday on the ice taking out the garbage. It was a spectacular wipeout! So be careful out there.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
