Is there any way I can get 2 chords for one beat? As the count goes '1 and 2'I want 3 chords so I get a passing chord on the 'and'.

Well, BIAB will generally have a workaround for everything but without jumping thru hoops, I would say No. But lets see what the more imaginative will come up with on this one.

Norton music has expanded styles that may help:

http://nortonmusic.com/expanded.html

With expanded styles think of BiaB bars as cells. With expanded styles two cells can equal one bar so you can put chords on eight note timings, thus you can accomplish your goal.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I think you have to make the song twice as long, twice as fast tempo wise and then 2 measures equals 1 and then you can do it if I am not mistaken. But I have never done it myself. 2 beats in the old tempo would now be 1 beat in the new tempo so you would have twice as many spots for chords. Does this make sense?

My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.

Bob Norton calls these expanded styles, he sells many versions of those, and I think this is now a part of BIAB itself as well.

Yes, I did wonder about that but then thought it may screw the styles up. Also I think I will need a bar of 3/4, not sure if that will work

I concur with Mario and Etcjoe. And I’ve done this, making what was one measure across two. It often works but not always; depends on the style. The notation won’t be right, but the sound can be.

Nortonmusic.com has Expanded styles as mentioned that make it easier.

I can’t see any reason to have 3/4 enter into this. Maybe you could explain further.

Also, if you add MIDI chords by writing notes on the melody or soloist tracks, you can simulate what you want without doing anything with the time. Even if you don’t like the sound of MIDI as much as RealTracks, when mixed together, it could sound very effective.

It may actually be '4 and 1' that I need chords on. The song is in 4/4. I'm just working on it but I think there may be a bar of 3/4 in the intro. I may get by without it

The answer is the same, no matter where your three consecutive chords on eighth notes appear.

And if I understand correctly, the intro is a one-time thing you can accomplish by F5 Bar Settings and making one measure 3 beats. Just use F5 on the following measure and set it back to 4.

OK, I can try that, I just wonder how the styles will then work, I guess if I want 75bpm, I will have to choose one at 150?

I have inserted bars so my bars are now really 2/4 but the drummer is playing 16th beats rather than 8ths

I'm beginning to wonder if this song is too complex for BIAB or whether it's my knowledge with the program that's the issue

Likely a combination of both. Try telling the drummer to switch to halftime it for that section.

maybe, it's because the keyboard part has lots of accents on the beat.

I am trying to re-create something like this. Listen from 35 secs

For RealDrums, they scale up and down pretty widely, but explore setting the Time Base in the RealDrums picker to Half-time. Or choose a new drum style based on an 8 pattern instead of 16.

And try a Half-time time base on your keyboard track.

This isn’t the easiest thing to do, what you are trying, and sometimes it just won’t work, plus it requires effort on your part to try various combinations.

About your question, yes, if your song was 75 bpm and you Expand it in the Edit menu, then look for tracks that sound good at 150.

You could create it manually as you can generate in a Utility track and edit in the Audio Edit with cut & paste.
Is this what you need:

That explains it, BIAB can't cover Prince! grin

A few years ago I published a way to enter 3 chords on two beats, here in Windows Forum. This way one could enter a quarter note triplet of chords.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
