Hi all

I'm working with BiaB 2021 #818 and I'm finding that when I mute tracks on the mixer, they will unmute themselves whenever there is a 'back to normal' command in my chord chart bar settings.

I don't know if this is a bug or a deliberate new design, but if I mute something in the mixer then I don't really want to hear it at all until I decide to unmute it. Is anyone else noticing this?

Mike:

It sounds like it's doing what you asked it to.
If "normal" means that it is audible, then you set it to "mute" to turn it off,
when it gets to a "back to normal" command, it SHOULD start playing again, that is, it should "unmute".

Am I missing something?

That is a new feature, which I personally like. When I mute a RT it turns red, when I unmute, it will go beak to green, because I've set it "Back to Normal" in the Bar Settings.

So, there is no issue. It's a nice enhancement (visually), confirming you mutes and back to normal setting in the arrangement.

Cheers,
Mike

Previously, the 'mute' feature on the mixer would override any bar settings and that was very useful for me - there are many times I want to quickly mute a track and listen to the others.

If this is a new design feature then I find that rather annoying. If I want to listen to a piece with a particular track muted, I now have to put the volume slider down to zero (and don't even get me started on doing that for multiple tracks and trying to remember what volume they were all on before)!

If it were just a visual change then I wouldn't mind, but it's also affecting the playback.

I'm not sure why the visual change was needed anyway - you could always previously tell whether a track was muted in the bar settings by watching the volume level indicator in the mixer.

Actually, putting the slider down to zero doesn't work either, so I definitely need some help with this. I really don't want to have to mess with the bar settings in order to listen through a piece with a particular track muted :-/

Mike,

Firstly, have you updated to build #822? If you are not sure if BIAB has picked it up automatically, have a look under "Help | About Band In A Box". The build will be in brackets.

Secondly, have you tried "Return to factory settings" under Options? Before using this, save your settings so that you can return to them if you wish. This is also under Options.

Regards,
Noel

Mike02392, I am 100% with you on this one.
While I do appreciate many new features to the mixer....
I do not understand the purpose of taking away ability to mute OvErRiDe bar setting. Seems like very important feature got lost in the process. In theory, you should be able to mute-override bar settings...How can you do it now without poking at all bar changes??

Noel, can you please explain, how does 822 or RTFS adresses this?

Hi all, I've reported this as a bug to the developers. I agree, the Mute button should not be overridden by Bar Settings, it should be a master mute for that track - that's how any DAW functions, or any analog mixer.

Simon,
Exellent!

MikeK, at first I also thought it was a good idea too, but playing around for a bit longer with different arrangements I found it to be a distraction and important feature loss. Perhaps... a wishlist item for the "mute" button to change color if it has a bar mute... For example turn orange while muted at the bar(s) as a visual indicator?

Great idea - I've added that to my bug report for consideration.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
