Larina

Haven't written any Bluegrass for a while, so here it is.
All comments welcome.

My sweet Larina

I left old sunny Queensland to search for southern gold.
I went to seek my fortune sold everything I owned.
So when I could return I'd buy my love a home my Larina.

I left her by the stables a tender kiss goodbye.
I found it hard to leave her tears welled up in her eyes.
I swore a solemn oath to her that I would return to Larina.

Bridge

I came across a bushranger bail up he cried give me all your
money or my gun will take your life.
He fired off a single shot I felt it burn inside. Oh, Larina.

I stumbled to the river bank and lay beneath the trees.
Can someone find Larina and tell her this I plead.
Tell her that I loved till the moment I did die.

Bridge

Oh My Larina

This train-beat country RealStyle features three "old time happy dance" instruments.
Acoustic guitar and mandolin play similar strumming parts that are panned to the left and right while a banjo strums along with a darker tone.
Electric bass alternates between the root and fifth on the beat.
TrainBeatBrushes RealDrums play in their only variation, which includes a busier brushes pattern in the B section.

This song is in the key of Bm/D and uses typical triads that occur every 2 to 8 beats.

Rob, I really enjoyed this! Besides the excellent vocal, your use of the style and the RT’s was spot-on, and totally complimented your lyric. I thought your vocal fill-in of “LA-RIII” was perfect, the way you left it hanging on the open vowel sound. Overall, fun and enjoyable listening experience.

Bluegrass is so much fun, and this song is a blast. Cool pic of Larina, too. Man, what a excellent use of BiaB. A fun listen, Rob!

Rob,
Great fun with a sad tale- those bushrangers got no respect for love!
Excellent vocal & harmonies and the band backs you up with energy.

Well, you made me finally look on a map and find out where Queensland is. crazy

Fun song - cheerful sound, sad lyrics. The instrumentals showed off some fine fiddling. Well done.

I enjoyed the listen!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Nice one, Bob. A good story, well told. It serves as a reminder that "greener grass"" (so called) doesn't serve us well if we end up staring at its roots through several feet of earth.

Better watch out for traditional bluegrassers who might sneak in and destroy that drum kit smile

You packed a lot of drama in that short story...well done!

And, as long time fans of your vocals...another well done!

Rob,
Excellent tune. Sad story, nicely told... not sure if it is proper to say about sad tunes, but I found it uplifting. Vocals, composition, mix is PRO level. Liked it! Thank you for sharing.

Quite a toe tapper!
You got it nailed!

WAAAAAYYYY better than Telling Laura.
This works really well - a simple narrative, and tear jerk ending and a strong, urgent beat.
REALLY cool Rob.

Cheers

Thoroughly enjoyable, Rob. A little nugget of a story - join the gold rush and fall foul of a bushranger; such an Aussie tragedy. Great vocals as usual.

Leon

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
