My my,
I've been otherwise occupied for a little while and when I checked in, WOW! I see so many new songs I need to check out.
I better get busy!

Here's one of my latest.
A little something about erotic dreams.
Thanks for listening.
https://soundcloud.com/captainmoto/captain-moto-strange-dance

Lyrics:

The golden glow of day break, brings the morning light
To wash away the shadows and the dreams she had last night
She flirted with the danger and then she took a chance

This unusual behavior leaves an image in her mind
Of twists and turns and movements of every single kind
Her heart has left her racing with the fever and the yearning for more of this strange dance

~Guitar Solo~

She lies there eyes wide open, the sunshine takes her gaze
Wondering if she could have, acted any other way
And the question goes unanswered, until the next strange dance

~Vocal Hmms & Echoing Guitar~

Through the day it haunts her, this stranger from last night
Living deep inside her, gripping her so tight
Holds her like a trance, the power of strange dance.

~fade~

The Band:
-Bass - BIAB #2474
-Acoustic Guitar - BIAB #2780
-Fiddle - BIAB #409

- Rhythm Guitar 2- Captain Moto
- Lead Guitar - Captain Moto
- Guitar Fills - Captain Moto
- Vocals - Captain Moto
- Synth Vocals - Captain Moto

Recorded and mixed in Studio One though a Focusrite Clarett interface, Telecaster though a Sm57 mic on a Goodsell amp & Aea Ribbon Mic on vocals

Love the sparse arrangement. Less is more although there's probably more to it than first meets the ear.
The subject is interesting too.

Thanks for listening.
Most of my songs are pretty spares.

It is rather simple but you're right, I used two BIAB tracks to lay down the rhythm.
I added at least six guitar tracks, the fiddle, three vocal tracks and a vocal synth to finish it off.

Wow Captain, something different from you!
What a nice subtle song. Very impressive.
Love to hear your sensitive voice, the very nice lyrics and the way the guitars slided through the song, like a gently flowing river. Beautiful! Almost got a tear in my eye, but I rubbed it away quickly of course...

Thanks Hans,

Boy do I love this song. I want to comment on the production first. What a cool mix. I love you instrument placement. It allows you to hear each and every instrument. Each one adds a texture and color to the song.

Loved that intro. Excellent vocals and lyric. The guitar wow. The tone was so effective and haunting. Well done.

An interesting write.

Cool production. The "Vocal Hmms & Echoing Guitar" combination is nice.

I enjoyed the listen.

Thanks Floyd,
I knew I wanted some Hmms and when I mixed that with the guitar I was happy with the results.

Very atmospheric. Love the echoing guitar (been kind of addicted to that sound since I bought Calexico's second album, the Black Light, back in 1998). Excellent mix and vocal.

Such a wonderfully lilting song. For me the strange dance was the movements I didn't realize I was making while listening. You move me, man!! The guitars are perfectly played and placed and create the perfect bed for the vocals. Cool song.

Enjoy whatever happens!

making the case for less is more!
Lots of space in the mix - space for the instruments, space for the reverb/delay and space for the imagination.
Wonderful stuff.

Cheers

A languid vocal to match the lyrics.

Nothing new to add that others haven't already said.

Engaging track, good vocal, evocative soundscape.

Enjoyed the listen! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
