Has anyone here had a video made of one of their songs? Are there any avenues you could suggest for achieving this on a budget? (project for video production students perhaps?)
I have no illusions about this as a financial operation - I know it would be a pure cost and the likelihood of monetising the result is close to zero.
So far, I have the song. That's it. No visual ideas for the video other than to tie-in with what is a 'story' song.
Any help, comments, pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Quite a few people here have made videos of their songs. There are a few inexpensive programs available that do video editing, you can even get decent results with movie maker, which comes free with Windows. There are a couple of other free programs out there too I think.
There are also lots of royalty free video clips available online that you can incorporate into your video. The last few videos we have done have used a combination of performance video and royalty free clips, and they turn out pretty good I think.
I have a link to our YouTube channel in my signature if you are interested in seeing what we have done.
Thanks for these responses. I guess my original post wasn't clear. I'm not looking to make the thing myself (I have neither the time, the aptitude nor the talent) but to get it made by a service provider.
My name is Jim and I have created a music video to my song. I have uploaded my video in distrokid, but it keeps getting rejected. I have modified the video 5 or 6 times and resubmitted. But I keep getting the same reply. It says something is wonky with the video. It also states that Music videos must not contain chyrons, static or scrolling lyrics, lower-third graphics, closed captions, subtitles, or lyrics displayed as subtitles. There does not appear to be any contacts are any way to get more specifics on why it was rejected. I need to find someone who has experience creating music videos to help me figure out what needs to be changed.

What did you create the music with? Was this BIAB, or did you use commercial recordings? (Also, I've certainly never heard of videos being rejected because they included lower thirds or subtitles )

I used video pad professional by NCH to put it together. The video is a mix of stuff we put together with a video phone and some purchased video. The song is about seven minutes long so there are many pieces put together. The editor is excellent so the transitions are clean. I initially had some still photos in a couple of places. Found out those are not allowed so replaced those with video. The file in an MP4 video. Resolution is 1280x720 with 50 frames per second which is much better than the minimum requirements. I wish they would specify where the problem is. With all the different clips included I have no idea where the issue is.
Here is a link to the video on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/jim.nicholson.967/videos/3523326607959833 The song was written and recorded here at home. The video kind of reviews all the stuff that's happened over the last 10 years. It picks on politicians and news reporting. Put a lot of work into the video and would really like to get it posted. Lyrics in bottom third. They specifically say not to do that. You typed " It also states that Music videos must not contain chyrons, static or scrolling lyrics, lower-third graphics, closed captions, subtitles, or lyrics displayed as subtitles."

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
I actually had been thinking about trying removing those. Only thing is, nearly all music videos you look at have lyrics on the bottom just as I did. I made sure the lyrics were done just like nearly all music videos have. I will remove those and see if it goes through. Thanks for looking at it.
The text is likely to be a problem seeing that have specifically mentioned it. Crop the vision to remove it. Also, if the video contains any commercial material (news presenters?), this might be a copyright issue.

mglinert, if you have some kind of budget for the project, you can try fiverr. Price ranges from $5-$5000. I've used fiverr several times in the past few years (non video related). 90% of the time I was happy with results. People who offer services have reviews that you can examine. Examples of their work. Usually you can also request a short sample of (your) project before approving.

I’m guessing that you do not have sync licenses for any of the AV content that you did not create yourself. It appears to me that Distrokid is saving you from yourself.
The song was patterned after a song from Pink Floyd's animals album. In that song they criticized the public figures in the UK they didn't like. So I took that idea and criticized politicians, news reporters, and those doing the mostly peaceful violence. Stuff that happened over the last 10 years or so.
None of the videos were taken from broadcasts or online postings. What video we didn't take ourselves was purchased, IE professionally made. The only videos from real live events were of the police trying to control violence and the boxing. Also the shuttle launch. But those were also purchased from stock video companies.
So I am going to pull out the lyrics. Anyone that sees anything specific that they think should be removed would be welcome. Thanks to anyone reviewing the video.
You must have a separate license from the publisher to include lyrics—same as including them on the album cover in the old days. Music licenses do not cover printing/streaming/posting lyrics. If you are the writer and publisher, it's perfectly normal to grant yourself the license — still, it must be done and you have to demonstrate this to the distributor.
Likewise, all video must have a sync license—even the royalty-free stuff and footage you shot yourself. Again, you must be able to prove to the distributor that you have these clearances. This is all part of the drudgework that must be done.
