I occasionally start an arrangement with let's say 6 RT's, using Bar Settings to set all the tracks to mute except drums and bass (just the first 4 bars). Then I set tracks back to normal as I see fit. Sounds great in BIAB, but when I render the whole song, all that renders are the drum and bass tracks, everything else stays muted during the render process?

Can someone try this please and let me know if you see the same?

Thanks so much!

Mike

Just to add: never had this issue in BIAB 2020, doing the same thing. Thanks!

Hi Mike,

I tried it out on 2021/#822 and it worked fine. Here is what I did:
- created a song, 32 bars, 2 choruses
- used a style with 5/6/7 tracks (I added solo tracks to them)
- on bar 1, I muted all tracks except drums and bass
- from bar 5 onwards, I set one track at a time back to normal
- generated the track, played correctly in BIAB
- exported to mp3 (is that what you meant by rendering?) - and it also played ok

I am happy to give it another go if you tell me what steps to adjust.
Cheers, Paul

Hi Mike,

The latest build being pre-tested at the moment has had some updates to bar settings.

I imagine that that's only a few days away from being released.

Noel

Hi Mike,

I have a similar or even the same issue. I muted a real track from the beginning of a song, after some measures I set the track to "Back to normal" - both via bar settings. Sounds fine when listening inside BiaB, but in the rendered file the muted instrument stays silent.

Hopefully this will be fixed with the next update. Already observed so many bugs/problems regarding basic features since the 2021 version has been released. Looks like the paying users are the actual testers of the software.

Kind regards,
Alex

I am still curious what you mean by "rendering". Could anybody enlighten me? Thanks.

Export Song as Audio File - WAVE.

Thanks all for your input. This is definitely a bug. Looking forward to the fix.

Hello Mike,

I reported a similar problem a few days ago:

https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=642595

... and I had a chance to look on build 823. The bug is fixed and my small example, demonstrating the problem, works fine.

Best Regards

Hi Mike,

I ran the same test again

- created a song, 32 bars, 2 choruses
- used a style with 5/6/7 tracks (I added solo tracks to them)
- on bar 1 (using bar settings) I muted all tracks except drums and bass (set back to normal)
- from bar 5 onwards, I set one track at a time back to normal
- generated the track, played correctly in BIAB
- exported to mp3 and wav - and it also played ok

What is it that you do differently to get the error? I am curious, you asked for help, and I ran a test but never got any feedback.

Edit - I also loaded the example file of 'saxgh' message about the issue, and it also rendered ok for me.

I'll leave it at that, it works fine for me but not for a number of other people. And it's already fixed in 823...

Thanks, Paul

Thanks for your reply and re-test. Others have already confirmed this is a bug. And I never export to MP3. I always click on the WAV symbol and and export as audio track, generate one each individual track.

When you say you muted, did you use the Bar Settings option to mute the track?

Anyway, I appreciate your efforts. But, this is a confirmed bug when using the Bar Settings to mute the instruments at the beginning of the track.

All good Mike, thanks for your reply.

I just re-tested with the uploaded SGU file (by saxgh), clicked on the WAV symbol, rendered as individual wav files and a combined one, and all play correctly.

I just find these problems fascinating, also the method of testing them.....

Still not working. Now, all instruments play even though I muted certain ones via Bar Settings at the beginning of the arrangements. Tried this with different styles. No need to even Render to WAV. Am I missing something?

And yes, this is with build 825. Thanks.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
