Hello, I am in the editing of notes in the editable notation mode. I am editing the bass line. I change a note save the song and each time I save the file close and open it regenerates the notes back to the same before my edits. I am missing a step in saving these changes. I am working on doing triplets but that's a different question I may have the answer with the staff resolution I think. Back to notes editing. How can I make the process faster? I don't seem to be able to copy and paste. I have to go into notation edit mode and click the mouse to change the note? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am new to this but fairly competent with my PC. LOL where have we heard that before hehe.

Firstly, welcome to the forums, Ray.

If you are editing notation from RealTracks (green tracks color in the mixer) then you are actually just changing a transcription manually undertaken by hand from the original RealTrack Audio.

When you play/regenerate the song, the original Audio is what is presented and the notation is replaced with the existing transcription.

This is because RealTracks are pre-recorded 'Audio' passages, and changing the notation doesn't change the audio. The transcription is only provided for reference purposes.

However, if you are editing MIDI notes (yellow track color in the mixer) then you should be able to freeze the track and your changes should be preserved.

Hope this helps in some way.

Hi. Let's tackle these one at a time. Welcome to the forum.

BIAB regenerates all the instruments except the Melody and Soloist tracks.

You CAN edit the bass track, if it is colored Yellow in the mixer that indicates it is a MIDI track, but you must then FREEZE that track, or it will regenerate and make up its own (which may or may not be the same the next time). RealTrack bass (colored Green in the mixer) will play what it thinks is best. If you want a particular bass lick, put that on a separate MIDI track and select a bass patch that sounds like your RealTrack bass, and Mute the RealTrack bass at that spot. We can tell you how.

For the triplets question, could you tell us what style you selected? Then we can give you step-by-step instructions. But it can be done, fairly easily.

You can copy and paste measures with notes, if that's what you mean, but could you be a little more specific about exactly what you are trying to do? Same reason.

BIAB has its own learning curve, and you'll get there.

Thanks so much for the info.

SW16 Slow swing 16 Pop 4/4 is the style I am using. Not sure what that means as far as if it's Midi bass or real tracks. Is real tracks really just recorded actual tracks and not midi notes with a sound applied to it?

So I am in Edit note mode and see right click and change resolution to 3 and then I can add the notes. However I want to have 3 notes G F# E just a triplet walk down in the song I come from a D2 then Walk down G F# E I think I got it but I also think the proper timing I am doing is the last beat of the previous measure is where the G falls.

Thank for the info.

LOL looking up how to "Freeze" the track I see all white when I edit the notes and I can drag up or down the note to what I want. Ah to be a rookie laugh thanks again.

So I right click and copy the measure and then paste it. However the edits I did in the bass line do not carry over to the target measure. Do I need to be in a specific view to copy the bass notes?

Thanks for the information it does help understand. I just wish I could get back the editing time hehe. Anyway the other post suggested a real track could be copied then saved? Is that possible? I have watched several videos already but I fear I am asking questions that answers might not be found in them.

Thanks again,

Ray

To be more clear if it was my post, you cannot do anything useful within BIAB with the notation on the bass track if it’s a RealTrack. Notation of RealTracks is there for educational purposes only.

Ray,

In addition to the fine advice above, to find out the name of the style you are using, select the "Memo" and the style will be listed there in the right column. (See the image below.)

Underneath the style, you'll also see a list of the tracks used.

Note: If the .STY file begins with _ (underscore) then it is a Realstyle and contains all Realtracks. If the starts with = (equal sign) then it's a mixture of Realtracks and MIDI tracks.

MIDI styles begin with letters.

Hope this helps,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
