I am not sure, if this has to do with the latest Biab updates as I haven´t used my small midi input device CME XKEY 25 lately on a second laptop, but fact is, that it is not recognized by Biab as midi input device.
As far as I understood this works without specific drivers before. Now what has happened?
What shall I say, everything, that keeps me making music is very annoying to me.
Any advice from your sides?
Cheers Stefan

Here is my setup for my SL88 Keyboard which I was surprised (since I had never tried to connect it to BIAB) to find that it appears to be fully connected and functional in BIAB. It is always about the drivers.
However, all my midi input with keyboard is done in Reaper which simply loves my SL88 as much as I do. Just for the record, I don't record anything in BIAB. All BIAB tracks go to my DAW where recording is added.
Here is what I would do: 1-turn off your computer 2-unplug your keyboard 3-turn on your computer 4-plug in your keyboard
That should make it work. If that works then do this: 1-right click on the start icon - bottom left in the taskbar then click on device manager 2-click on universal serial bus controllers 3-click on USB hub 4-click on properties 5-click on power management 6-uncheck allow computer....etc
repeat #3 thru #6 for each USB hub
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

If yes, most likely it would not work with windows Ble (bluetooth )driver, unless of course you use official CME dongle. If you have Wired connection, it should connect as a midi device. If I remember correctly, you do have to "turn it on", I think just pluging it to PC would put it in charging mode (if it is Bluetooth model)
BIAB or not BIAB.... Download Xkey piano and see if your keyboard works with your PC with connection you are trying to establish. https://xkeyair.com/xkey-downloads/
I have a (wired) Xkey 37 here and it works perfectly in BIAB (Windows and Mac). Make sure you've downloaded all the software from Xkey, as there may be a firmware update waiting, and as others have mentioned, you will need a specific driver for it to work over bluetooth if that's the version you have.
I needed to switch to an older laptop after my other one hat power cable issues. Obviously the xkey keyboard needs so sort of driver ( which I could not simply download on the CME site).
The email to support function is not working for me on their side. Seems I can´t progres from here with my means now.
Wait for my new power cable, that hopefully arrives soon.
Cheers from
unlucky Stefan :-(

I do not believe you need any drivers if you use USB cable directly connecting it to PC.
Windos will most likely not support Bluetooth MIDI unless you have CME dongle (as I mentioned earlier). Keyboard has a very nice build, but CME company is reckless when it comes to customer service. Send me a private message, I might have original driver I can give you.
thanks for the SW XKeyPlus V.2.5 Rusty. Unfortunatelly I hat already installed this one. If I call it, there are no usefull opeerations I can do. The interesting buttons are all disabled. See screeshot attached. Since my 2 XKey keyboards (not wireless) are several years in use, I wouldn´t even know any serial number if I this button to register it would be enabled though. The barcodes on the back of the bigger keyboard does not look like a searial. The keyboard is simply not recoginized after plugging it in. As it seems to me. On my other laptop it worked at least for the smaller one. The bigger one was also lost at one point in time. probably a windows update?! I also unchecked your suggestion in the power management of the USB controlers Mario. The led from the XKey is flashing all the time in an on-off manner. As before.
Wrote to the CME support a second time after. Hope get some usefull information (somewhere). Thanks for giving your advice.....
Cheers Stefan

Since it doesn't show and your computer can't find it I wonder if the Xkey isn't getting enough power from your USB port. If possible I would connect the XKey to a powered USB hub. If what I surmise is the problem this should correct it.

I think you mentioned it is a Bluetooth model? If yes:
Without anything running (no BIAB, nothing) what happens when you plug in your keyboard to computer with USB cable? a)Do you hear bling sound of item connected? b)If not, do you see GREEN light where the plug is, showing that keyboard is charging?
If you do not see that green light, 3 most likely causes: #1 Your cable is defective #2 Your computer port is non responsive #3 Your CME is defective --------------------------------------------- Troubleshooting (for Bluetooth CME) Does your PC USB port, the one you are trying to connect CME works with anything else? Flashdrive or such? If yes-> take your keyboard and plug it to a wall USB charger (using same cable) that has USB ( even external battery pack should work) If you do not see green light, replace cable. If changing out cable will not give you green light at keyboard when plugged in to external power source, most likely there is an issue with keyboard. --------------------------------------------- Having said that. I think you mentioned you have 2 of them? (maybe I am wrong). It is highly unlikely that both will fail at same time. I would focus on cable and USB port.
P.S. Mario, The Bluetooth version has internal battery. So even if it charged by 3%, it should not have issues with power at laptop.
I have a USB power Xkey25+37. They used to work and now none of them do on my substitute laptop. They light at the mini USB port at the xkey flashes red. I guess a pover supply issue too.
But how can both go out of order at the same time (windows update?).
I tried different cables and puut the cables even directly in the socket in the wall. Still blinking red. Probably a global conspiracy ;-)
These xkeys a pretty slim on my desk and sometimes they are sufficient to work with. On my old laptop I also had issues lately with the xkeys though.
With all this trouble I will get a hardware and software specialist before I can continue to be a muscian in the first place (in my spare time.....)

This message is from the reset of the Xkey 25. When I saw these errors 2 or 3 days ago I deactivated the devices as a try to let the operating system start new again. Did not work though.
In terms of chronology, the 25 keys modell still worked when the 37 keys was already not being recognized in the device settings of my DAW (Studio One). But as both keyboard are now not working anymore due to usb driver issues, I think that one of the windows update produced this problem. As I use a bigger keyboard usually, I did not realize it immediately, only some time after the update.
Does that ring a bell to someone. Happy for feedback.
Cheers Stefan

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
