I Want To Live Here's an ode to the will of life, circling around the same subject as my previous song, but this time from a completely different angle, with bit more (dry) humor. The chorus melody came to me in a dream, where I was singing it loud and for a long time, it was simple and easy to remember (I can't be sure whether it's original...) Thus less complex chords than usually. Unfortunately I didn't remember anything about the lyrics or the song title in the morning, but I knew immediately that the song should use the new ska RTs (BIAB 2020 was just released at that time). I'm glad that BIAB makes it so easy to explore different genres, I hope this change is not too drastic I left some rough edges there, I think it's ok to sound bit unfinished, but of course you may disagree RealDrums: SkaFastPopWes FootStompJig2 FootStompKlezmer2 Cowbell2 AfucheShakerEv8[single] RealTracks: Electric bass, SkaPunkPopAb #3489 Electric guitar, Rhythm SkaFastPop #3493 Electric guitar, Rhythm SkaFastPunk #3494 Electric guitar soloist PunkMurray #2586 3528:Vocals, Background GospelCool2-part Sw16 075 HALF-TIME 687:Harmonica, Background Pop Ev 165 Jaw Harp, Rhythm Folk16thsFastRoots #3426 Vocals by me Mixed in CakeWalk by BandLab Lyrics: I want to live through the painful stabs the itching and scratching due the crabs my best years through the mud to plod waiting in vain for the rescue squad. I want to live in the hope and trust before my stage is cosmic dust that the last ten minutes of this passion play would be cheering and hurray. I have chosen my own way my risks are rewarded with this pain no praising for the roles I tried an angel not walking by my side. At least I've learned one thing in grime praying for mercy is waste of time but I still want to fight and paste the iron in my blood to taste. I want to live... On this beach when aged with rust it's futile to look for youthful lust yet again another shameful fall same drunken humping to recall. Years have filled me with regret there has never been no one else to pet. Wish before I'm ash in a bowl someone sees my burning soul. I want to live... Powerless look by the hills the crawl in the pit of the old age ills lonely singing is a hurting knife at the last sips from the mug of life. Although the grief overflows my cup I'm never going to give life up. Dregs will give me my last high my medicine to softly die. I want to live... ------------- Janne

Well, that was something else. I want to live through the painful stabs the itching and scratching due the crabsCertainly not lyrics I expected. Interesting write, especially juxtaposed against less cheery (but still positive) lyrics. Darn it, a song that challenges my expectations. Nicely done.

Janne,
It's a very fun song. Certainly, this song is a completely different attempt for you. I also agree with that BIAB makes it so easy to explore different genres. The chord progression is simple at first, but your personality will come out in the middle. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.

Janne,
That's completely different from your usual song.
Very interesting, quick moving and a melodic chorus.
Complex and interesting lyrics.
A well written and performed piece.

Janne, A wild dream song ( isn`t that frustrating-you hear something so clearly in that other world that falls into the depths so fast on waking). There`s no time to blink in this- a tumble of thoughts with a keen self deprecating humour. I enjoyed bopping and listening closely to your zany musical life reflections!

Hello Jannesan,
Something completely different from the four songs I listened before yours! They were more understated while you introduced a joyful 'fancy fair'! But a bit cynical in a very nice way:
"Dregs will give me my last high my medicine to softly die. I want to live..."
You did a very good job on this one Janne! With very nice vocals too. But I bet you were breathless at the end of this song, weren't you? I can imagine how it worked out in your head in the middle of the night. Have more of these kind of nights...

This song pops! From the first note to the last, it's pure excitement. yes, different from your usual but a real nice change. Full of energy and non-stop fun! Great job. The mix is strong and really moves the song along. Take care.

This is my favourite of your songs. The ska bounce and pace juxtaposed with the dark humour of the lyric and the ultimate optimism works for me. I'm not keen on the harmonica, solo or female vocal but they are peripheral. Excellent.

That is a great thoughtful summary of your song. Janice was literally dancing around the studio -- you'd have to see it to believe it. Bud is used to it BiaB + talent + genre exploration yields some fascinating productions and this is certainly one. A different path but we enjoyed your little journey! J&B

Robert Thanks Robert for your kind words Yes, I remember writing a hit song in a dream, but couldn't recall in the morning, that's really frustrating. But luckily in this case I had the chorus melody, because I sang it long enough to remember it Glad you liked the pace and thoughts, self deprecating humour - that was new concept to me - maybe there is that also, although it's more like cursing the circumstances than (him)self. Hans Thanks Hans your insightful review "joyful 'fancy fair'" that's nicely said, and I can agree with that. Actually this wasn't difficult to sing (except 'risks'), because the tempo is so fast that a section is finished before you need to breathe. Sure, I have many dream songs to be finished, although not this fast paced, I hope to finish during this year at least a song called Drinking (With Joyful Feeling) Janne

Cool groove to the song.

Janne,
Yes, very different from anything I’ve heard from you. Musically, it’s an absolute blast—wow, what a mix—so much fun to listen to. I would have liked that vocal to resonate a bit more in the mix, particularly given all those great lines in the lyric. But absent having the lyrics before them to read, I don’t think a listener would pick them up. But, boy, what some great touches on that production. Love those little spots of gospel choir in the background—genius! Contrary to rayc’s opinion, which I greatly respect, I like the harmonica here. Really ambitious, wonderfully envisioned, creative and adventurous tune. Impressive work!
All my best to you,
Deej

Deej Thanks Deej for your very nice review and those wonderful words like envisioned and adventurous I agree what you say about mixing the vocals, always difficult task for me when I try to hide defects in my voice... The gospel choir RTs in BIAB are great, but they don't work all the time, so I usually use only the best parts. I'm glad you liked the parts I used Janne

Yes, very different for you, but still has your inimitable touch. Great lyrics and I thought the harp was good and well-placed throughout. Excellent work! Thanks TM for your rewarding feedback Nice to know that I have such a special touch Yes, I like that harp too, those more exotic RTs are really fun to use, although they usually fit with only few songs. Janne

Wow, a fascinating song, Janne, with an interesting perspective on life and ageing. I loved your vocals and your arrangement. I might have to update my version of BIAB so I can experiment with those ska tracks. Thanks for sharing, Mike Thanks Mike for your nice comment Glad you found something in the lyrics too. Ska tracks are nice addition, although I have noticed that the ska drummer might go crazy sometimes. Janne
